I asked this a couple of years ago but was not able to set that computer up for some reason. I have since changed computers and want to try it again. Are there instructions here anywhere?

Has not your browser this ability ?
Firefox \>Preferences or Options/Advanced/General/Check my spelling as I type.
Unchecked in my case, and I don’t care for the idea, however KDE in Opensuse seems to implement a spell check anyway. It usually has American spellings.

I don’t think the SDMB itself has that function. Do other message boards or websites provide that service?

Not in the message board software but perhaps your browser. Check your browser settings for more information and/or extensions or apps that may work for you.

I have spellcheck via Chrome.

It’s currently telling me that spellcheck is not a word. Shut up, Chrome, I say it’s a neologism and the final form hasn’t been fixed yet so spellcheck is as correct as spell check or spell-check.

The only common browser I see that doesn’t have built in spell-check is Internet Explorer version 9 or lower. Fortunately, there’s an addon that will add this feature called [Speckie](http://www.speckie.com/).

If you have Firefox, Chrome, or IE10 or higher, then some settings are messed up on your computer.
