# Does Speaker of the House get a salary?

Does the Speaker of the House get an additional salary, in addition to just being a Congresscritter?

There’s all this talky-talk about making Trump the Speaker. If that happens, but he is not elected to be a House member, will he get any salary at all for that?

It’s roughly a 50k/ year boost in pay to be speaker. I’m unclear if someone who isn’t elected to congress would just get the boost or if they would get the whole listed pay of $223.5k

The Speaker also gets a larger budget for increased staff & office expenses. But that is not her personal salary; in fact there are ethical rules prohibiting using any of that to pay family members or connected businesses.

Any such rules would not apply to Trump, of course.
