It did get better - I’m almost at the end of Season 1. ---

I’m currently going through all of it from the beginning. I have seen the series sporadically over the years. I liked it from the beginning. ---

I’m bumping this old thread because I just finished Season 5 this past weekend. On the whole, I enjoyed the show, though I did at times get a little weary of the angst being brought in from every corner. Seems like the poor boys could never get a break. I thought it definitely took itself a little too seriously in Seasons 4 and 5. I didn’t watch every episode in 4, but I watched them all in 5 but one (the one where a teen boy takes Sam’s body. The mere description turned me off.) Watching the boys go through the hell they went through just to get to the ending they got to was hard. But the ending didn’t feel contrived or unfitting. Goes to show that angst is not always bad. I loved the bits about the Impala in the final episode. I positively _adored_ Castiel, so needless to say I will _not_ be watching Seasons 6 or 7 as I know enough about it to not want to. The funny moments always remained, and will remain, funny. I still think Dean is one of the prettiest (in a good way) men I’ve ever seen. When he looks directly at the camera it’s liable to make one’s knees weak. When you look at the earlier episodes it’s really clear how much Sam has grown. From **Aeris** : “I miss Sam and Dean kicking in doors and killing monsters then drinking a beer in a local dive. The music, the car, the one liners…that’s Supernatural to me.” How very, very true. And ok, I admit it: I read a couple of pieces of fanfic. Thanks, all! ---

I’m bumping this now very old thread because I just finished watching Season 7 on Netflix a couple of nights ago. (They don’t have Season 8 yet). After Season 5, I took a long break but I finally realized I missed the boys and their adventures. I flatly refused to watch the episodes where Sam has no soul, so I skipped all the way to close to the end of Season 6, and then watched most of the episodes then, though I didn’t watch any Garth episodes (he took 35 seconds to annoy me) and of course missed a lot of the Mother of All episodes. In a way it was kind of a relief. Yes, there were ginormous things going on in the background, but Sam and Dean seem to have gotten over a lot of the issues in the first five seasons and get along better, and both of them have admitted they hate hiding things from each other. I miss the format of the earlier episodes - everything is so dark now - but I still enjoyed them and still laugh in almost every episode. And Dean is still so freakin pretty. ---

And season 8 has been a significant improvement over 7 and 6 in my opinion, so you should watch it on DVD. ---

To me, the Leviathan were the most boring villains to date and were it not for Jim Beaver most of the season would have been a complete bust. Castiel is a regular next season, which can’t but help, but the show is so tired now that I hope they’re giving some thought to retiring it with dignity. ---

I dind’t mind the Leviathans. I thought they were amusing at least, and the bibbing and the head-mouth thing was freaky enough. Plus it was less about them and more about the boys’ trying to find a way to kill them. I still love the basic formula - monster smashes things up, boys bust in, bust it up, and leave. I watched the X-Files for nine years and loved it but they were always in over their heads. It’s nice to see a pair that know what they are doing. The gay jokes never get old, and the brotherly love never gets old, either. Watch it on DVD - nah, I can wait until it comes out on Netflix.
