Does the computer (or OS) you prefer indicate your political preference?

What’s wrong with me? I always thought PCs were easier to use than MACS. Those things just make me feel uncomfortable. But I’m a radical left-winger who would vote libertarian if humans were actually benevolent and good-hearted creatures. I’m actually politically confused; I’m one of those volatile independents who vote for the man, not the party, but I’m a registered Democrat (just so’s I can vote in the primary). But PCs rock! I’ve had my computer for 5 years and while it sucks and is slowas hell now, the first 3 years it ran just fine without any tweaking.

Libertarian/NT

What is with the hostility? Did Mac users burn down your family’s home? People: Mac or PC; Coke or Pepsi; Chevy or Ford. These things…

DO

NOT

MATTER!

People who argue about the percieved superiority of whatever businesses’ product they choose is as ridiculous as the button people arguing that it’s classic design is far superior to the overly-complicated zipper device.

IMHO

OK, small hijack…have you people NO sense of perspective? The bottom of the line iMac is $800 and in almost every area it kicks the butt of the G3 I paid $2200 for three years ago. AND I had to carry it home on foot twenty miles in the snow. Uphill. I paid $800 for my first 20 MB hard drive … Damn whippersnappers probably never even saw a 20 megabyte hard drive … mumble … in MY day … 128K … keypunch …

OK, done now.

Me - Democrat (mostly leftward leaning, with some beliefs eminating from the right) - Windows 2000 Professional.

Generally, here’s what I’ve seen from my friends and peers.

Macintosh – definitely left of center, with some well-known exceptions (Rush Limbaugh, for instance).

Windows 3.1 – fans are very conservative; otherwise, non-political.

Windows 95/98/ME – all across the board, but “fans” who prefer it over other operating systems are usually right leaning. They’re the folks that call Word a “document creation solution.”

Windows NT 4.0/2000 – those that go out of their way to install it at home over Windows versions without NT heritage are usually leftward leaning, but not that much. Deliberate NT users, I’ve noticed, aren’t very militant, and don’t mind working with other operating systems.

Linux, Free BSD, Net BSD – either liberal/left or libertarian. I’ve noticed a high positive correlation between Linux use and gun ownership.

BeOS – slightly left of center.

Green party, I use a MacG3 at home for recording, surfing and promotional graphics, but I’m the network administrator at work so I use Win2000 on my personal machine, with 2 NT4 servers and a totally irrational mix of Win95/98/ME/NT4/2K all over our network.

Windows - kinda like a welfare state for Network techs, guaranteed income for life.
