# Does the "Jughead" hat have a real name?

It is a variety of beanie; in days of yore when we would refer to them at all (which was seldom to never) we would consider them “clubhouse” hats.
A person might wear them to a meeting (in team or club colours) but would not be seen with one on in public.

Damn! I answered this question before the Board went down, and if we do a search on my old responses I might find it.
James Lileks had a copy of an old ad for those “crown” beanies on his website at [www.lileks.com](http://www.lileks.com) , but he’s since purged a lot of stuff, including this. The ad gave the name of the beanie, which I’ve seen on a lot of cartoon characters, but never in real life.

Never seen one in real life?
I made one when I was a whelp. Used one of my dad’s old fedoras (with his permission!) Basically just cut off the brim and beat out any blocking, then sawtoothed the edge and folded it up, and cut out a bunch of different shaped holes. Decorated it with some pins/buttons.
Man, I was styling!
Oh yeah - I just called it a beanie. Far superior to the propellor style.
