Does the U.S. still need the Marine Corps?

That’s good, right?

Ah, now isn’t that the point of this whole thread? <veg>

We dont need as many because our Tankers have the same mentality as if they had a rifle. One shot, One Kill. I was attached to a Reserve Tank unit our of Syracuse NY and almost every time we went to the top gun competition at Fort Knox, we were always in the top 5 and more so the first or second place unit and this competition was across the whole USMC, Active and Reserve units.

Either way, the Corp will always be essential. No other branch can take personnel from a non 0311(infantry)MOS and put them on the front lines as an infantryman. Only the Corp has that flexibility. To be able to pull someone from an Admin MOS and put them on the front lines as a rifleman to replace fallen commrades and perform well is unique to our training.

The fact is if you pit an O311 vs whatever the designation is for an Army Infantryman… Are they going to be close in skill, yeah but being a Jarhead I have to say we would come out on top.

Now the point to be made is if you pull one of yer Admin Clerks and pit them vs a USMC Admin Clerk in any aspect of combat be it hand to hand or weapon on a range the Marine would absolutely dominate them and if need be replace an 0311 if the situation required and perform well.

We are all Riflemen who just happen to have an every day job, aka our MOS.

Welcome to the board, CplMannSJ. This thread was started nine years ago and many of the posters have moved on, so it would be better to start a new discussion on this topic. I’m closing this one.
