I think it’s fair to say there’s no way you would be owed the higher amount. I still can’t comprehend why you would even entertain that thought.
After playtime, anything left on the floor was fair game for my parents to toss (which they never did, they’d just hide it away until I asked for it).
A passport is a legal document and I’m not surprised it was untouched. I wouldn’t touch someone’s passport unless they were right in front of me for fear that I’d be accused of taking it. As for your ticket, even if the maid saw it, how was she to know it was still valid and not really trash since it was on the floor. My $0.02 is you may have been offered a courtesy refund at the time, but there’s no way I can see you’re owed anything now.
BTW, why did you wait so long? Also, why did you leave your valuables on the floor?
My position is that under no circumstances are you owed £56 or €60, and your claim to £26 is now very weak because you waited for a very long time to make the claim.
Yes I suppose I shouldn’t have put it on the floor but I had gone downstairs for breakfast and when I came back up I found that the chambermaid had cleared the room . However she should have put all the things on a table as it was obvious I was coming back. So it’s fair to say that I am owed £26 for the replacement ticket? And I should just claim the £26 for the replacement ticket in relation to this?
IMO nobody “owes” you anything. You may have received a courtesy reimbursement if you had mentioned it then. Months after the fact it would be ridiculous even to bring it up.
That train has left the station.
Why didn’t you put on the table in the first place?

This is why hotels have Do Not Disturb signs.
No. No one is saying that. Not one person in this thread. Even if you’d taken it up with the management at the time, they could easily have refused to compensate you through lack of evidence. They aren’t going to entertain it now, and there’s no police force or small claims court that’s going to back you up this far from such a minor event.
What you think the cleaner should or should not have done is beside the point. You were careless with your belongings, and have paid the price. Hotel rooms have safes for a reason.
Move on.
