Yeah, but given that I’m asking rather than answering the question, I don’t exactly feel qualified to do so in this instance. 🙂

I think this thread has made it clear that this style doesn’t have a single name, but (not counting deliberately insulting monikers) there are a few different terms used to commonly describe it.

I call it a **circle beard** , but I’ve also heard it called a **door knocker**. cite: [Pictures of Facial Hair and Beard Styles](http://menshair.about.com/od/facialhair/ig/Facial-Hair-Styles/goatee.htm)

I’ve always known it as “candado” (padlock)

[This place](http://nixbased.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/08/beardtypes1.jpg) calls it a Van Dyke as well.

> Christ almighty. You are seriously telling me that what I have had on my face for 10 years now is refered to as a chin mullet AND to top it off I am a member of a “certain social class”? Wow, thanks for the depression that has now set in, I am sure I will get over it in a few years.

> Just out of curiosity, since I didn’t know I was in this “class”, what exactly am I supposed to do for fun, what clothes am I supposed to wear and such… I am so confused now. :smack:

Imagine my predicament – I teach college classes where we critique the culture… now I find that, because my beard doesn’t extend up my cheeks, I have no culture.

Do I need to give up the tweed sportcoats with the suede elbow patches, and buy some sleeveless T-shirts with Nascar logos?
