Ann Coulter, so it is alleged by some, triggered this. I seem to remember that after 9/11 she said that America should invade the muslim countries, kill their leaders and convert the populace to Christianity. ---

China knows the score. You want to know how to fuck over America during trade negotiations? Kiss Donald’s ass continuously and relentlessly. Make Trump feel like a special little boy, and nothing else matters, he’ll sign amything. Trump thinks leaders in China adore him, and so all that tough talk about China you might have heard during the campaign goes right out the window. Leaders of authoritarian countries know how to deal with overgrown man-babies in positions of power, dazzle them with flattery and spectacle and you can rob them blind. Trump is a rube, and sharp foreign leaders know how to treat rubes. ---

On his visit to Poland, where the right-wing prime minister, Beata Szydło has decried the “_madness of the Brussels elite_” who wanted to create a “_utopia of open borders_” it is well known that the PiS (ruling party) bussed in supporters from outside the capital. In a public Facebook event, Jerzy Wilk, MP for the northern city of Elbląg, invited his constituents for a “_Great Patriotic Picnic, the first speech in Europe of the president of the United States … a fully paid bus will take you to the location”._ Anyway, it looks as if there are still some diplomats in the White House, who have enough sense to side-step the potential embarrassment of the current POTUS’s visit being compared to the last one’s. Well it’s also because a lot of the tough talk was stupid, based on a number of misconceptions about how foreign trade works and what things like trade deficits are. Like with the wall, it’s not so much Trump backing down, as many, many people all separately sighing and telling him “Mr President, it’s not actually that simple”. ---

It would seem to me that Brexit is an unforced error that requires the UK to remain friendly with the US even if it doesn’t necessarily want to be. ---

The vast majority of British people DO want to stay friends and allies with the people of the United States. This, in spite of the damage done by Blair/Bush in the Middle East and now by the present incumbent. Those of us who remember the Cuban Missile Crisis are having similar concerns about the NK missile crisis. It’s not a good feeling to stand on the sidelines while two megalomaniacs hurl insults at each other. Brexit was indeed an ‘unforced’ error, but we have to make the best of it now. Remember that a lot of what gets published is posturing for the home audience. I am confident that, in the back rooms, civil servants are getting on with the job of working out how best to deal with it. ---
