Does your first-grader know the dangers of alcohol?

Alcohol is taught all wrong in the US. When I was an infact my parents would rub whiskey on my lips to make me go to sleep, I was an insomniac. At age two I had my first beer. I was never taught that alcohol was bad, just drink in moderation. Therfore I never had the need to experiment and go binge drinking. In high school kids would sneak drinks out on friday and saturday nights, I was like whats the big deal. I have never been shit face or had a hang over because I was taught to drink responsibly much they it is done in Europe. There is very little alcolism in Europe. By making something “BAD” you make it appealing. Teach your kids to call you when they are too drunk to drive, cause they ARE going to drink BEFORE they turn 21.

Uh, WiredGuy- dead wrong on a couple of counts.

Very little alcoholism in Europe- nope, not true, I will try to find a cite for you in a minute.

Alcohol can have debilitating effects on development, both physically & intellectualy (again, I’m looking for a cite). Anyone who gives a child alcohol to “teach them how it’s done” could be doing serious harm. A little whisky on a teething baby’s gums is one thing- not really necessary thanks to the advent of Orajel, but whatever. But giving a 2 year old a beer? How stupid and irresponsible is that? And totally unnecessary.

I have always thought it was ridiculous to get your kids to drink to “teach 'em right.”

Euro alky cite #1, courtesy of AA web site (sorry I don’t know how to post links!).

There are over 40,000 active AA groups in Europe, with over 671,000 members. This count includes only those people in recovery who identify themselves as members of AA. You may extrapolate a number from those of how many actual alcoholics there are in Europe however you want to.

Especially over in Eastern Europe!
