[/QUOTE] And, if you get sloppy with it, or just forget it’s there the next time you grab the ironing board and get your hands on it, soap is reasonably compatible with clothing and can be washed out. Graphite is death on clothes. FWIW, you need to spend about $100 on a Brabantia ironing board to escape the shriek. Even then, it won’t be silent - just more of a sksssshhh than a noise that frightens the dog. ---

Ah yes, nothing says “Practical Joker” more than sneaking up behind a co-worker with an ironing board in the morning and opening it as they are about to take their first sip of morning coffee. ---

Once we had the misfortune to stay in a hotel room which had a “connecting door” to the next room. You could hear everything that went on in there, and the management wouldn’t let us move. This was in Hawaii; we’d spend the day swimming and sunning and come back to the room tired and sunburned and turn in early. Right about the time we were dropping off, the neighbors would unfold their ironing board – SKWREEEEAAAAAAKKKKKHHHHH! – presumably to iron out their evening garb preparatory to going out to party. Who brings clothes needing ironing to Hawaii?!? ---
