Well, as hell doesn’t exist, I can’t think of a new punishment there for this guy. Instead, I merely suggest that the perpetrator be tried and, if convicted, imprisoned to serve his term. In a kennel. Sua ---

The Old Testament isn’t very enlightened when it comes to punishments for “intentional infliction of emotional distress”. **Max** : How do you know that a million people didn’t donate 12 cents each? Often, for causes like this, people put out little jars at veterinarian’s offices, pet stores and shelters. People toss in a few nickles and dimes. When was the last time you saw a jar labeled, “Help find the murderer of Joe Smith”? You probably haven’t, **because we all pay the police to do that.** The police don’t devote **nearly** as much time to things like this as they do to solving robberies, rapes and murders, for obvious and sensible reasons. I’ve been reading about this since it happened, and I’m no less outraged now than I was then. A little dark part of me would like to see this guy tossed in front of a moving 18-wheeler; but, if convicted, I think he should get the maximum jail time, a hefty fine, and have to spend every weekend for the next three years working at an animal shelter, seeing the kinds of abuse that animals are subjected to. ---

It distress me that some jerk was so devoid of emotions that he killed a defenseless animal as payback for someone accidentally hitting him. That doesn’t mean it wouldn’t distress me MUCH MORE were it her CHILD. Regardless, I am in a state of shock that people on this board are so indignant over the subsequent OUTRAGE. It was _just_ a dog. Well, fuck you. If someone came into your house and robbed you, I would never say to you, “Get over it. It was just your THINGS.” Loss of trust is much harder to get over than the loss of your dog. ---

The big reason they collected $120K - the story got airplay. It’s exactly the sort of “human interest” story with an odd twist to it that every news station will play for all it’s worth. A “normal” murder isn’t news, and any development important enough to affect the lives of a large number of people will be too abstract to play on peoples emotions with. The average listener would rather emote than think, which is precisely what a commercial sponsor wants - if the audience started exhibiting a degree of rationality, who would respond to advertising? ---

Wabbit: You are truly and ass. It’s almost unbelievable (unless you’re an ass, of course) that you are basically blaming the victim in this case for what happened to the dog. It was a minor fender bender and the ass (the other one, not you) who killed the dog really only had to exchange insurance information with the dog’s owner. But then, you probably don’t realize that, being the ass you are. ---

Wabbit: Since this was a local story, I read of the event right after it occurred. The dog’s owner said that the BF was very friendly and social, and was used to driving through fast-food stands with the woman and coming to the window to get attention from the food server. The dog was in her lap and at the window before she even rolled it down and was therefore right within reach of the jerk before yelling could be heard. Am I the only one, or do I sense in more than one post here the “I hate small, cute dogs too and don’t give a rat’s ass if someone kills them”? Common prejudice. ---

Hmm, and to think I thought that saying “this doesn’t excuse the guy” would be sufficient. Apparently not. So here’s what I’d like to have happen to him: long jail term (etc. etc.) surrounded by hordes of yapping bishon frise’s. Justice will then have been served.
