He must’ve remembered it from his screenwriting days in Germany, and pressed it into service in the 1940s in **Son of Dracula** and **House of Frankenstein** as a stake-less, blood-less antiseptic way to kill off vampires. When Hammer Films decided to kill of Christopher Lee’s Dracula in 1957, the trope was set in stone. ---
