So a few weeks ago I was in Bali for a bit of a sojourn, and for the VERY first time I had a pedicure AND got my nails painted, For me, at 63, that was a bit of a milestone, AND, the nail polish (bright red for those interested) has not chipped or paled in the last weeks, I am impressed, I am less impressed that our pupper has diahorrea. BAD squits, I woke this morning to THREE puddles of shit, two wees PLUS the cat must have been envious so shat in the toilet as well, Haven’t given the girl food in 24 hours, and the shits are diminishing in size thank OG, BUT, she’s sleeping in my room tonight, so hopefully no shit to clean in the morning, Fingers and anuses crossed, ---

I have nothing to say about manicures, having never had one, but I would strongly warn against the massages on the main beaches in Bali (Kuta, Jambararn, Canggu) which might seem cheap. Those little old ladies are fucking hard-core muscular and they show it, not in their thin old-lady looking arms, but in the 1 hour torment of pure pain they put you through. It was not fun. A nicer beach can be found about 50km(?) east at Pelahuan Padaing Bai, which has better snorkling, less tourists and much cheaper accomodation. As for dog shit… well, my dogs eat shit, so I just wrap my hand in a plastic bag, hold my breath and just try pick it all up. And if I cant, sprinkle earth over the remains. ---

And – FWIW – if you’re in the Gili (Islands), and one “Mona Lisa” offers your brother a massage, do as I did: ensure that he knows that she’s _not offering an actual massage._ It turned out fine, I guess – judging from the [to relate it to the OP] shit-eating grin on his face when he returned. “Red Nails and Dog Shit” would make for a great country song name. ---

I was a bit confused that the dog shit was first in the title but second in the body text, and that the two events were apparently a couple of weeks apart. Happy for your pedicure, so sorry for the sick puppy! I just went through a protracted sick puppy stage. Vomiting and diarrhea were facilitated by the vet because my little guy ate mouse poison. His diarrhea persisted far past the treatment. A spoonful each of pureed pumpkin and plain yogurt stirred into his regular food put him to rights within 12 hours. Maybe something that can help your pupper, too? ---

I don’t know whether I am just super-sensitive to pressure, but have learned that no matter how many times you say, “too hard, be gentle” they just don’t get it. I stayed in Sanur, which is a quieter destination than the usual Kuta, Legian or Seminyak. I’ve travelled to Bali previously, and ALSO learned to avoid those places like the plague. 😛 ---
