Coldfire, Dogs aren’t routinely neutered here, either. There’s nobody I can think of who has or had a neutered dog. Neutered cats are more common. So, it must be an american thing, indeed… ---

Another (not) bump . . . **Coldfire,** maybe I should rethink the neutering. I’ve always had cats and female dogs and just figured it was best. Max is an indoor-outdoor dog with a _very_ secure fence, but I always thought non-neutered dogs were more likely to hump everything and go crazy trying to get out of the yard when they smelled a female in heat. I think I’ll do some more research . . . ---

Routine neutering (at least of dogs) is indeed an American thing. The “boy doggies” I’ve seen in Europe and here in Japan generally are fully, er, equipped (though no, I have never done any sort of complete investigation :rolleyes:). ---

- - - Update: a pal was over at my house looking through some old issues of Bizarre magazine, and found a reference to another doggie prostitute joke: In the October 2001 issue of Bizarre (UK mag, yer basic XXX/gore/humor/general wierdness)… page 28 mentions a story of a guy (calling himself Alan Allen) in the Soho area of London who played a prank concerning “working dogs”. He made fake calling-cards with pictures of dogs on them and left them in phone boxes alongside the real ones. -A calling card is a small card with a picture/photo of a prostitute, usually some teasing blurb and a contact phone number. Some of his read “New Poodle in town, French a specialty”, “Greek Loving mastiff” and “Well hung Alsatian who would love to be your chum”, and put his own mobile number, just out of curiosity to see who would call. No other info was given on the cards as to who the intended customers were. He said he got “a number” of angry calls from both working girls and related people and also from animal-rights activists, but the article does not elaborate any further. - DougC ---

I spoke with my vet and he says yes, un-neutered dogs will go crazy trying to get out of the yard or off the leash on a walk if there is a female in heat anywhere around. He said they don’t just do a vasectomy (leaving the testicles) because, while he would be unable to impregnate, he would still have the urges. I made an appointment for the ball-chopping this Friday. Max is never going to know what he’s missing. I did consider getting him some Neuticles . . . extra large, of course!
