I’ve never met a chihuahua that fits any of the comments about dogs that were in the OP. Or a yorkie. Or a miniature pinscher Just sayin’. Generalities about dogs don’t work. They come in too many shapes and sizes. Cats rule. Dogs drool. Really, I love dogs. I wouldn’t work with them if I didn’t, there are plenty of cat specialty hospitals where I could go forever without seeing dogs, but I love those drooling, barking, furballs of love! ---

Just sayin’. Dogs rules, cats cough up furballs. ---

My two cats are quite affectionate, Nemo, the orange and white shorthair will actually run up to the car when I come home from work, and wait patiently for me to open the door, as soon as it’s open, he’ll jump right up on my lap and start begging for attention, purring up a storm, if I didn’t know better, I’d say he _misses_ me while I’m at work, his food bowl is full, he has water, so it’s not a question of “FoodGiver is home!”, it’s because he wants to spend time with me Blue, Nemo’s brother, a black and white shorthair is _agressively_ freindly, if I’m lounging on the bed while watching TV, or surfing the 'net on my MacBook, Blue will jump up on the bed, and make every effort to lay down on my arm the very instant I lay it on the bed, once he has captured my arm, he happily purrs away, utterly contented, knowing he has me “trapped” ---

I love dogs, don’t get me wrong, they’re awesome and most people aren’t deserving of the unquestioning loyalty their dogs give them, but I’m a cat person. Cats can be left alone for long periods of time without tearing your house up. They’re much more independent. One thing I love is that humans went out and actively domesticated dogs to be used in hunting and such (I think this was some 15k years ago, but that’s off the top of my head). Cats domesticated themselves when humans started building grain houses. Humans had a problem with rodents in the grain houses, cats followed the rodents in and began killing/eating them. Humans let the cats stay and a mutually beneficial relationship was born ---

Cats were obviously lacking in some sort of aspect and dogs took over that job with gusto and enthusiasm. Dogs rule ---

I’ve known my share of idiot cats. My sister’s room mate had one that was an idiot AND a mean little bitch. We didn’t get along. Then one day I discovered the joy of glass coffee tables. The cat would be sitting on the table when I’d start gently tapping the bottom with my foot. Twice she tried to pounce on my foot and twice she missed. 😃 I’ve also known some fucking cool cats. My fiance’s parents trained their cats to play fetch. You throw a toy, they take off running after it and bring it back to you. ---

I don’t mind cats, but I’ve had dogs my entire life and will until I can no longer. I’ve known plenty of sweet, affectionate cats who loved people and were just a pleasure to be around. What I’ve never seen is a cat that can make a burglar think twice before coming in on hearing the sound he makes. I’ve never seen a cat find someone buried in rubble. I’ve never seen a cat locate a few remaining drops of accellerant in a burned out house or chase down a criminal. In the realm of usefulness to humanity, dogs outpace cats by a ratio that can hardly be quantified. With all that said, cats have a place in the hearts of their owners which mere visceral comparisons cannot undo. Cats, therefore are superior in the eyes of their owners, dogs are superior to society in general. ---

All I know is if I ever get stranded in the far north, I’d rather have a dog along than a cat\*. \*But I have to confess, after 20 some years of hating cats, a new kitten has completely won me over, while a relative’s pug has me rethinking my love of all dogs. ---
