> So you poisoned the dog, **your some sick fucks** , you know that? Unlike sheep or rosebushes, you could have taken your cat indoors. Instead you ambush an animal that was no threat to you and **HOLD IT DOWN** to adminster something dangerous for the dog. What was wrong with calling animal control? Do you know how Inhumane it is to poison something when you don’t know what a lethal dose is? I wonder how long the dog suffered from your familys actions.

It was a long time ago and I was much younger so my memory may be faulty on some of the details, but if I remember the thing that motivated my sister and dad to attempt to kill the dogs was because they were trying (and succeeding) in getting into an _enclosed porch_. This porch had a door. This was the cats’ “safe area” and where they would relax and sun themselves.

I think I remember seeing the dogs push through the door to get to the cats. This enraged my dad and sister so much that they did what they did. It’s almost like if the dogs were trying to break _into_ the house to get to our cats. How many chances do they get to do that? And who many other neighborhood cats have such determined dogs killed already?

I assume that my dad made the decision to not call animal control because he felt that they would not do anything effectual, especially not in time to protect our cats and other cats in the neighborhood.

Ever try an AR-15? They’re a lot more accurate, from what I hear, and a lot lighter.

**Derleth** , fuck you. A farmer has every right in the world to protect his livestock. Got a problem with that? Fuck you again. In case you haven’t noticed, when you get bitchslapped by multiple posters and no one rushes forth to defend you, that’s your cue to admit that you fucked up.

I see this kind of attitude all the time. Irresponsible pet owner lets Pookums out and he acts like, well an animal. Irate parent/property owner/pedestrian/etc… takes some kind of action against Pookums which may or may not border on vigilantism and may or may not involve permanent de-animation of Pookums. Pet owner gets in a huff and basically asserts that Pookums had a right to do whatever the fuck he wanted to and that you are a monster for daring to defend yourself or your property.

I would be extremely sad to lose the cat, but I could understand the reasons for it happening.

I have to say, that out of all the animal abuse and torture I’ve seen called for, suggested, and related on this board as regards dogs with incredibly irresponsible shitty owners being, well…dogs, this is by far the most digusting and cruel thing I have possibly ever read here. This is torture, pure and simple.

I do not know the exact effects a dog suffering from an overdose of insulin undergoes before it dies, but I cannot imagine it to be either fast or pleasant.

Note, I have no problem with farmers protecting their livestock. Feral dogs, or even just dogs that have gotten used to attacking livestock cannot be broken of it, and will continue to do it as long as it’s allowed to roam.

Nor do I have a problem trapping nuisance animals, or calling animal control/the police and continue reporting irresponsible dog ownership until they intercede with the owners, and if it attacked my pet or child, I would certainly be fine with killing it in whatever method was fastest, to save my pet or child’s life if I could not get the dog off immediately.

In fact, a friend of one of my ex-boyfriends used to have a German Shepard puppy, who mauled their daughter out of the blue one day. He took the dog out to the front yard and shot it, clean, right in the head. (It was rural Indiana) I’ll admit to cringing when I heard about it, but he did exactly what animal control would have done (put the dog down), and he killed it quick and clean, it died instantly, and morally, I can’t criticize him for his actions.

Holding down an animal, who was apparently not much of a threat to anyone but the cat, and administering a dose of insulin to poison it to death and then just releasing it to wander off and die…wow…that’s just incredibly evil, to my mind.

Then your father is as stupid as he is cruel, I’m sorry to say.

He had the dog in his posession, in an enclosed porch. If he had called animal control, (it is their specific JOB to remove dangerous animals) they would have taken it, and most likely put it to sleep after contacting the owners and/or the police. They do not release vicious dogs, not even to the owners.

I was pretty young and don’t remember the particulars, I admit. I do remember that the neighborhood skuttlebut was that there were these “cat killing dogs” roaming about, and these dogs certainly fit the description. The dogs had not been contained by anyone up until then, and I am guessing that my dad decided to not wait around for our cats to be killed before something was done. I also remember that the shot was given very quickly, right before the dog wriggled away, so it wasn’t a matter of the dog being held for a long time while always behaving in a docile manner. Either the enclosed porch door was not closed or something and the dog got away—I simply do not remember.

I know that my dad and sister were and are not “evil,” and I do know that they never did anything like that ever again. But since I cannot remember the details very well, and since my dad is no longer alive and able to defend his side of the story or why he made the decisions he made, I don’t know what else there is to say. I do know that we (and the neighbors who knew about it) felt at the time that it was either do that or just wait around for the dogs to keep coming back to finish the job. Was the decision that they made the most best one, the most cool-headed? Most likely not. But I’m glad that our cats got to live and I don’t feel terribly sorry for a determined, cat-killing dog.

My sister just came by and so I asked her about this. She told me that my dad _did_ call the pound, the dogs were taken away, and the next day they were back. Trying to kill our cats \*again. \*

So, I guess that’s why my dad and sister decided to do what they did. Obviously calling animal control _was_ ineffectual. That’s obviously why the neighbors were behind my dad and sister too, I guess.

Pardon me, but do you think that getting chewed up, mauled and killed would have been like a walk in the park for the cat??? I’m sure that’s not very fast and certainly not pleasant, either. Granted, I am overly sensitive on this issue since the neighbor’s Akitas came over to kill two of my cats a year apart, but in this case I can’t dredge up much sympathy for the dog. Had the dog’s owner merely KEPT IT CONFINED, nothing would have ever happened. Cat’s happy, dog’s happy, everybody’s happy. If the owner doesn’t see fit to do that, even after animal control intervened, then the cat owners were well within their rights to do whatever they had to do. Cruel? Maybe. But so is letting your dog run lose to kill other folks’ cats.

Whoa. After talking a little with my sister (and my mom, who also remembers the incident) it appears that my memory was definitely suspect on some of the finer points.

Rather than go on an extensive “fact finding mission” to find out every detail and confirm it with all family members, I’d like to roll back just a bit and touch upon the basic points:

Dogs try to kill cats on our porch. Dogs don’t have tags. Pound is called. Dogs taken away.

Dogs **return next day** to try to kill cats on our porch. Are left with the definite impression that this pattern is likely to continue until cats are killed so dad and sis take matters into their own hands.

That’s the gist of it.

I don’t think any of this makes my dad or my sister “evil,” and neither does anyone else who was there that day (neighbors, etc.). But I guess I can’t stop some people from thinking that if they really want to. All I know is that (once again), I’m glad that our cats weren’t killed.

I had to modify my name and get a new e-mail address so I could keep on posting on here.
Now to clarify. I mean this dog no real harm, just to give him a case of the shits and a mess for his owner. The Stanley Steamer van was down a couple haouses on Monday afternoon, and the dog hasn’t been back into the yard.
I might of got my satisfaction and it didn’t cost me a dime, the Ex-Lax was in the cabinet when we moved in, there is also a Fleet enema in there and I’ll save that in case the dog comes back.
**Derleth** I am a big man all ready, I don’t need to kick a dog, but I could kick the shit out of you. When you get out on your own and loose your Jr. high idealism maybe you will understand what it is to have something you worked for and not want it torn up.

Well, I _happen_ to have the full protection of the law, they _are_ committing an illega, act by not leashing or fencing in their dogs, and that sheep \*before8 the dog atack was worth over $6 kUS as it was a show rambouillet who was damaged enough in the attack to render him an it. So much for breeding it ever again. Though I did get damages after the fact, I would have preffered keeping the generative ability of a fairly rare animal.

FWIW - any livestock owner has teh right to shoot any animal bothering his/her stock. Unfortunately this is frequently used as an excuse to take deer out of season…but not by me. i was protecting my stock from depredations. Keep your purebread dog away from my farm, and it wont end up costing you a visit by the animala warden, damages and fines and teh need to replace your dog=)

Our family is into beef, and pork. The quality of our meat is way better than anything out of a store!!

It is extreamly lean, and when we get an animal butured, were get many pounds of meat, sausages, and big steaks. That’s the best part. We get steaks that would cost you a fortune in a restraunt or at the store for very little. Considering the quality etc. Very tender and ?flavourful? (\<\<is that even a word).

too bad it’s had to describe exactly what food is like.

Ohh ooh big big chickens too, we do those some years. Big 50lbs chickens. They feel just like store bought turkeys.

It is amazing how good it is when it isnt pumped full of hormones and antibiotics=) you would not believe the cheese we used to make right after weaning the lambs=)

1 leg of lamb - 5-7 lbs. bone in or deboned and rolled
one half cup each white wine, lemon juice, apple cider vinegar and olive oil
1 small glass jar mcormicks italian herb blend
2 tbsp good dried mint
1 bulb garlic, each clove cut into slivers of about 1 quarter clove
1 sprig fresh rosemary - use the ‘leaves’
1 tbsp whole pepper - black or white, or szechuan if you can find them

using a larding needle, make holes in the surface of the roast, inserting
peppercorns, rosemary leaves and garlic slivers all over. mix the rest of the herbs into the 2 total cups of liquid.
Take a large size oven roasting bag, and put the leg of lamb into it, and dump in the marinade, and squoosh out as much air as possible, and seal shut with a rubberband and put in a baking dish in the fridge overnight.

this can be roasted in a rack in the oven, basting it about every 15 minutes with marinade or done on a grill or rotisserie outside, basting every 15 minutes or so until done to however you like it. We like lamb sort of medium rare=)
