I have three large dogs (hence the on-screen name) and never realized how much of an impact the content of their food has on the volume of their poo until my oldest boy developed stomach cancer and we had to switch him to super high protein, low roughage dry food. As no one in my house is allowed special privileges by his or her siblings, that meant I had to switch all three of them to this food. The volume of poo is down at least by half. They still eat the same quantity of food, but so much less is remaindered. Because I work a lot and travel a lot for my work, I’ve employed a poo-picker-upper service for the last 7 years. My regular poo guy asked me if I’d lost one of my dogs, because he too had noticed the decrease in volume. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the odor. Higher protein levels mean higher stench levels. But with less overall stench-making material, it all balances out. ---

I had read in a review of grain-free food that “My dog’s poop just turns white and disintegrates after a couple days because I feed him this all-protein food.” I sort of had noticed that when I was giving it to my golden at the end of her life but I didn’t have much time to study it. Anyway, my new dogs get food with grain, but the other week I gave them each a beef knuckle. A couple days later I was walking through the yard picking up the stuff and I saw two huge white mounds of poo, one for each beef knuckle I guess! I didn’t notice any worse smell but it had already been in the hot, hot sun for a bit by that time and was basically clay. ---

We feed our dogs a raw diet (meat and vegetables), and their poo does indeed turn white after a day or two, and will disintegrate into dust if we don’t pick it up in time. We still have our son pick it up on a regular basis…but it’s a significantly less disgusting job than it would be if we fed them ‘regular’ kibble. ---

I got a truck load of free sod and dragged it home. The pieces were maybe 1’ x 4’. I started rolling it out in front of my house, inside a stone wall I built years ago. The dogs were very interested in this project. I rolled the first piece out. The oldest dog immediately starts rolling on it. Roll out 2 or 3 more, start to make a pattern. By the 5th piece, that fucker had taken a shit on my new, tiny lawn! 😃 2 whole acres of dog-town, and he drops a deuce on the 20 square feet I had managed to unload from the truck. Dogs are funny. ---

I have nothing against the dog at all. I think its a great dog. My problem is when people don’t have consideration for their neighbors and let that shit pile up. Aside from this issue, my neighbor has been a great neighbor. I would have said something sooner, but I haven’t been using my backyard much this year and I only go out there once a week to mow and pull weeds. I must have had a cross breeze last time since it finally smelled pretty bad. I can imagine the three or four other neighbors within range have smelled it too and its amazing that no one else has complained. ---
