I’m with **zoid** ; if somebody’s expecting you to read their mind they better be intimate enough that they’re sucking your dick. **He’s** a dick and browbeating you because you let him. Get a set and walk. You may have empathy issues you need to examine but nobody has to just sit there and be put down and lectured endlessly. You may have other needs you’re afraid won’t be met but you won’t know until you change the scenery and see what’s out there. Real world? Adult? Sometimes “family” has to be put on the back burner and left to stew. Seek out people who make you feel good, not bad.

Your roommate has appalling manners, not to mention a poor understanding of the value and purpose of basic social graces. You’re not unreasonable. It’s time for a new roommate.

> He might have a point on the beer thingy sorta. It is nice to have someone just do something nice for you out a the blue.

Exactly. And while you’re at it, give him a nice neck rub. Clean yourself up so you look nice and pert. After a hard day’s work, he shouldn’t come home to a drab roommate. Let him tell you about his day before unloading your burdens on him. He’s been working hard.
Then, serve him his dinner with a cheerful smile, taking care not to burn anything. After dinner, his favorite dessert, and then bring him his slippers and the afternoon paper to read, and fill his pipe with his favorite tobacco, and light it for him.

> The more I think about it, the more I’m convinced that the issues with his (semi-)ex-GF are what’s exacerbating the domestic problems. I won’t divulge any specific details of course, but it’s damn ugly – they could all use a serious dose of Dr. Phil. And I’m still rather shocked that he’s trying to patch things up with her when he told me they broke up two months ago, and I was damn glad to hear it. She was bad mojo from the start. So that’s something I could bring up if he throws another conniption fit.
>
> As for the dishes, laundry, getting-a-beer thing, etc…well, I know about those things, but it’s hard to know what he wants, and we basically lead separate lives anyway. That being said, I’m starting to think that part was just him finding shit to bitch about (due to unresolved issues with aforementioned ex-GF) because it really did come out of left field!!! (When was the last time he offered ME a beer, anyway?)

Why on earth did you listen to him rant?
Why are planning to bring up the gf thing next time he has a conniption? Just walk away.
SHE was bad mojo? Sounds like a perfect fit for him.
I think you thought you would have some idyllic roomie situation. I think your roomie thought that a butler-roomie would be ideal.

> Fuck that shit, man. If I were in your shoes, I’d be resisting such an urge to pee in his shampoo bottles.

Or that bottle of beer before you bring it to him 😃

Joking of course. Your roommate is a jackass, hope you can find your way to a better living situation.
