An update on the gunman story: the feds say they don’t think it was an attempt on Trump’s life.
I assume an armed sovereign citizen is more likely to be there as a supporter.
As a Californian, I’ll point out that the Californian Republican Party’s decision to double down on supporting Trump has been credited for them pretty much collapsing in recent years, including losing historically reliably Republican areas.
Also, Trump is kind of the anti-Jesus, which makes that statement extra funny. Not in the religious “Anti-Christ” sense (although he fits that too), but in the sense of people who are polar opposites in basically every way. Jesus would probably give him a “whipping the moneylenders” moment, while Trump would try to have Jesus expelled as an “illegal”.
The same is true in Washington. The state Republican party has gone hard MAGA, and as a result, there are currently no Republicans in statewide office, when less than a decade ago they held the majority in the state Senate and as recently as 2004 they came within 200 votes of winning the governorship.
This year, at their state convention, they refused to endorse Dave Reichert, who was easily leading among Republicans in the gubernatorial primary, in favor of Semi Bird, an antivax lunatic facing stolen valor charges whose claim to fame is getting fired from a school board in the tri-cities (in the deep red part of the state, even) for defying mask mandates. Reichart came out on top in the primary anyway but is still going to lose, and this year’s Senate race is so one-sided that I haven’t even SEEN any ads or signs for the guy running against Maria Cantwell.
[Scratches head]
And nobody has made the connection?
Anyone who is not sufficiently MAGA loses their primary. The winners try to tack back to the center in the general, but their Dem opponents can use their primary positions to paint them as extreme. It’s a no-win situation for Rs in blue states.
Some have, but they aren’t the ones in charge. And the MAGA types think that reality is defined by their own desires, and that denying obvious facts is a moral virtue. Faith based politics in action, only the weak or unfaithful change their opinions in the face of facts.
The Massachusetts Republican party did basically the same thing. Decided our very popular Republican governor wasn’t Trumpy enough, and surprise, we now have a Democrat for governor.
Same thing in Maryland as well, where the Republican Party decided that —rather than succeeding wildly popular GOP Governor Larry Hogan with his anointed successor —they would be better off nominating a January 6 insurrectionist.
It’s a useful reminder that the Republican Party in “blue” states isn’t necessarily any more moderate than the deep red states.
I heard complaints from republicans that only a Democrat has a shot at Governor, and so i pointed out the crazed MAGA lunatics the GOP has nominated the past several elections.
Same thing with the GOP here in Michigan. I don’t have the details right in front of me, but there’s been a little mini civil war going on within the party for at least a couple of years now and Trump is at the center of it I’m sure.
This is from just about six weeks ago and stories like this are common here.
Apparently Trump’s going on Joe Rohan’s podcast. Harris or Walz should probably have jumped on it first .
Bah, I mean Rogan. No offense intended to any Horselords.
Trump appearing on Rogan might be insightful. Rogan may be able to ask Trump questions in such a way that Trump won’t immediately get offended and he might actually answer instead of just insulting the host.
Then again, Rogan might ask in the wrong way at which point the interview is over and Trump will be out there talking about how rude Rogan was and how he’s a has-been and all the usual Trump etc.
Trump combat knife? PatriotAddictDeals.com? Limited edition?
Good lord, is there anything about the right that isn’t screaming “scam” these days?
And there’s been Republican governors in the past…they just didn’t have Trumpism as an anchor around their neck.
Last one was Schwarzenegger, who I even voted for. But he was a modertate.
Why do they think he will stop with “illegal” Migrants when he starts his big deportation run? If the military is going door to door, and locking people of a certain color in concentration camps, why do they think they’ll get a pass 'cause they vot r, or drive an f150?
“I never thought the face eating leopards would eat my face!”
These people are consistently surprised when they vote for people who hate a group they are part of and discover that the hatred extends to them too. They always think they are the exception.
