Not bothering. The only way these people could have escaped moral accountability for this is if they had kept careful records that were destroyed in an accident (verifiable as such). But if they just didn’t bother to keep records, then they were _deliberately_ consigning the children to permanent separation from their parents. ---

They end up put up for adoption. They’re not good enough to become US citizens along with their parents, but they’re good enough once taken away from those same parents. This is just [one article](https://www.nbcnews.com/news/latino/deported-parents-may-lose-kids-adoption-investigation-finds-n918261) on the subject. I’ve seen others about migrant kids who got separated, put up for foster care, and their parents have been denied the return of their kid “because that would be disturbing to the child” who’s grown up knowing no other parents than the foster ones: remember, while Trump’s administration has been caging them, separating children from their undesirable parents isn’t exactly a new policy for the US government. ---
