I think it has less to do with that and more to do with the Crimea and Russia issues that have been reported on recently. If he truly took money from the governing party in the Ukraine, then routed the money to US lobbying firms and didn’t disclose it [as reported by AP](http://bigstory.ap.org/article/c01989a47ee5421593ba1b301ec07813/ap-sources-manafort-tied-undisclosed-foreign-lobbying), he is guilty of a felony for acting as an unregistered foreign agent. He also reportedly had a hand in [protests against NATO forces by pro-Russian groups](http://fusion.net/story/338016/trump-manafort-marines-nato-protests/). The protests included rocks being thrown at US Marines.
He won’t dish because reports are that Manafort will still be an “[outside confidante](https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/post-politics/wp/2016/08/19/trump-campaign-chairman-paul-manafort-resigns/?hpid=hp_rhp-top-table-main_pp-manafort-1010am).” I think they want the heat from the press on Manafort to go down without kicking him to the curb completely.

I think “outside confidante” translates to “we will keep paying you large sums of money, as long as you keep your pie-hole shut.”

I’m thinking it means “Outside the USA. As in, one of those countries without a pesky extradition agreement with the US.”

I was thinking that myself. Wondering why I haven’t read some newspaper article or opinion piece on how poorly he’s shown himself to be as a picker of good people.
Only conclusion I could come to is that it’s too easy.

To me, one of the many striking things about Trump’s speaking style is frequent use of “unfair” and “not fair”. Anyone who has spent much time around children is probably familiar with this feature of Trump’s rhetoric. When a child or Trump says something is unfair, it simply means that something about reality is not just the way they want it to be at that moment.
My favorite instance of this so far is in an article on Politico quoting Trump on a Hannity show. He is talking about Clinton’s health and stamina.

I really do wonder. It is not a job that usually has too much turnover. McCain switched from Rick Davis to Steve Schmidt in 2008 (although even then Davis retained the title). Ed Rollins quit as co-manager for Perot, with interesting similarities:

You know, that is actually a weakness. Our own Dutch Trumpian political party, the PVV, is the third largest party in the Netherlands. We have about ten serious political parties. Of these, the PVV attracts the worst people.
That is an objective truth: the percentage of [PVV party members convicted of crimes](http://www.volkskrant.nl/archief/nog-vijf-pvv-ers-biechten-hun-veroordelingen-op~a1064325/) and/or misdemeanorsis over 30 percent, while it is near zero % in other parties.
Their crimes are more serious, too. [Minor to major financial fraud. Violence.](http://www.welingelichtekringen.nl/politiek/543570/criminele-en-foute-pvv-toppers-de-tussenstand-van-1-februari-2016.html).
My best guess is that joining such a non-respectable organisation is done only by people who don’t have much to lose with such a job on their resume. Who would not get such a position elsewhere because they wouldn’t pass the vetting test.
The previous Dutch populist parties fractured withing the year after the election, due to fighting like rabid dogs amongst themselves. The current party, PVV, only manages to escape that fate because it is not officially a party, but it is a one-man-organisation headed by Wilders, that employs staff. He IS the party and he has no organization to answer to. He learnt his lesson well. Angry loser people will still be angry loser people when elected members of parliament.

Manafort’s a professional fixer and bagman. He’s not going to dish because that would ruin his professional reputation. If you’re a huge criminal scumbag, you aren’t going to trust a squealer.
