# Donald Trump's 2016 General Election Campaign

Trump was planning to give a “major speech” on immigration in Denver on Thursday. He cancelled it because, apparently, he hasn’t decided what he was going to say. I’d think you’d want to have the speech pretty much ready before you announce your intention to deliver it, but I’m not a Republican presidential nominee, so what do I know?
It was reported that, in a closed door meeting with Hispanic leaders, Trump signalled a willingness to accept some path to legal status for the 11 million or so undocumented immigrants in the US – you know, the ones he’s been saying “have to go” for the past year. I guess his position is evolving.
If he comes out in favor of a path to legal status, the gymnastics his supporters go through to continue to justify voting for him will be a sight to behold. Sorry Simone Biles, you may have won gold, but Hannity will be shooting for platinum. Watch out!

Assuming that Trump loses in a landslide, though, it seems unlikely that Clinton would direct the federal government to investigate any irregularities in Trump’s campaign. He’ll be politically irrelevant outside of the right wing soap box arena, and any investigation will just lead the true believers to see Clinton as a vindictive sore winner, and will be a distraction from what she’ll be trying to get done.
Maybe the NY attorney general will go after him if it looks like it can be framed as a state law matter, but otherwise I imagine Trump will waltz off into the sunset.
