I heard a segment from Trump’s phony appearance at a black church in Detroit. He apparently felt the need to point out that Lincoln was a Republican. Why do Republicans think that is news to anybody? Nixon’s southern strategy is far more relevant in today’s politics than Lincoln’s opposition to slavery. Do white Republicans think that by invoking Lincoln’s name, that blacks will drop to their knees and say “I see, massa! Of course you have my vote!”

I suspect that they will say so, whether Clinton states she has no objection, states that she approves, or says nothing at all.

What ever causes him to pull out is plus for Hillary. He looks like a child, and she gets a platform to bash him without rebuttal.

Well, maybe. You and me, fer sure. But his minions? All he needs to bail is an excuse _they_ find plausible, why should he care what _we_ think? And how does that compare with a public spectacle of her tearing him a new Nixon?

Unless he’s ahead in the polls the day of the first debate, he’ll have to do it. And by ‘have to’ I mean that his children will force the point, even if Donald doesn’t care to listen to the heads of his campaign, whoever they might be on that date. If he’s behind he will need that nationwide audience, and the kids know it.
My guess is that Assange and the Russians will cooperate by releasing something really juicy (even if completely fabricated) about Clinton, on that day. That will put the spring into Trump’s step as they march to their podiums.
