I always liked them myself, but plenty of New Yorkers thought they were too big, too ugly, too simple and too dominent, especially compared to other, earlier skyscrapers.

My heart sank when I saw all that … of all the dang things to happen after Trump and the Deplorables had been absolutely spittle-flecked with conspiracies about her health. But as the day wore on, and I learned that a doctor had given her a diagnosis of[EMAIL=“[http://www.nytimes.com/2016/09/12/us/politics/hillary-clinton-campaign-pneumonia.html?\_r=0](http://www.nytimes.com/2016/09/12/us/politics/hillary-clinton-campaign-pneumonia.html?_r=0)”] pneumonia Friday morning, and she had been put on antibiotics, it all suddenly made sense. Her cold-like symptoms, her raspy cough.
So, I think it turns out in her favor - she said all along that she’s a workhorse, not a showhorse, so she ploughed ahead with what had to be done. An admirable trait for a president.
Some people are ragging on her staff for allowing her to attend the memorials, but I’ll bet it was Hillary’s decision. She wanted to honor the 9/11 heroes and victims … and certainly didn’t want to appear weak to her opponent.

I grew up in NY in the 70s, one of my uncles has lived two blocks from the Twin Towers since before they were built, and another uncle is a community representative for urban design proposals… and I can attest that it’s true, the general consensus among New Yorkers was that the Twin Towers were boring-looking, cold-feeling, and too big (though impressive due to their size, and the view from the top – especially outdoors, on the roof – was fun). Some felt their one saving grace was that there were _two_ of them – the twin-ness gave them a touch of poetry, famously exploited by tightrope walker Phillippe Petit.

The Twin Towers were ghastly. Absolutely ugly in themselves, and hostile to most values of good urban design. From a purely architectural viewpoint, good riddance.

Reminds me of the famous Dennis Skinner incident in the UK Parliament: At one point Skinner commented that “Half the Tory members opposite are crooks.” When instructed by the Speaker to withdraw the remark, Skinner quipped, “OK, half the Tory members aren’t crooks.” 😃

I do not find this surprising in the least.
First of all, it is a fact well supported by many, many examples that campaign spending is not a panacea that papers up every campaign problem. If it were, Meg Whitman would be governor of California. The connection between campaign spending and electoral success is not as clear cut as people assume.
Secondly, Trump is running an unorthodox and highly effective campaign that does not require huge ad buys. I know everyone thinks he’s insane, but he is not. He’s a sociopathic asshole, but he is much, much more clever than he is given credit for here, and he has successfully established a firm base of voters by conducting a campaign that is distinctly atypical of Presidential campaigns. None of this is an accident.
Having now solidified a base of about 40% of the voters, he’s going to spend the next two months trying his best to look like a normal candidate to win over undecided and swing voters. You read it here first; he’s going to try his damndest to be less Trumpish and more conventional now. He doesn’t have to spend a ton of money, he just has to “look Presidential.”

Of course he does. He’s merely commenting to support his base, firing them up. And sure, it might affect an undecided voter or two. Again, he is not stupid. He does not have early-onset Alzheimer’s. He’s hideous and ignorant in many ways, but smart at what he does, and he has done a total end run around the way these things are usually done, is close to being elected President, and people still seem unwilling to believe it.
Clinton’s comments were stupid. She is proposing to be the President of the United States of America, a capacity in which she must serve all Americans, including the (at least) 55 million or so of whom will vote for Trump. Even the ones whose opinions she doesn’t like will be her employers, and it is her job to serve them, and it’s hard to convince people you plan to well serve them if you think they’re worthless.

After Clinton’s remarks about half of Trump’s supporters being “deplorable,” Roger Stone posted an Instagram of a [Photoshopped image of Trump and supporters as The Deplorables.](http://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2016-election/trump-adviser-son-post-image-trump-s-deplorables-featuring-white-n646431)
The image prominently includes Pepe the Frog. (Since I’m not at all cognizant of alt-right shit, I would never have known that Pepe is a white supremacist mascot.)
So, let me get this straight … Trump supporters want to deride Clinton’s remarks about them being deplorable, so they use a symbol of one of the most deplorable movements in the US. You can’t make this shit up.
I think a Clinton supporter should Photoshop of Clinton with some of her more well-known supporters. Of course, it would have to be a much bigger picture than Stone’s. And include Kermit the Frog in the picture.

I am a real doctor that went to school and everything. I examined Donald J Trump and it is my doctor opinion that he is the healthiest individual alive on the planet. His blood tested positive for everything.
Urinalysis and Colonoscopies were not required. His energies are in such perfect balance that he does not urinate or defecate. He does not even have a rectum, he has no need for one. His skin is tough as steel and he is impervious to any sort of physical injury, up to and including bullets. And he has the sexiest hair on Earth.
His specific results are as follows. The A stands for AWESOME !!
Lungs 100% A++
Intestines 100% A++
Stomach 100% A++
Pancreas 100% A++ - he has the BEST pancreas !!
Liver 100% A++
Hands 100% A++ and they are HUGE, in the 110th percentile for size.

Right - you said it was “Trump’s Tweet this morning”, but it’s actually a tweet from Fox & Friends, repeating a comment he made on their TV show. It neglects the part where Donald says that Clinton’s health is now an issue in the race.
