I don’t know if I can give blood because I have teeny tiny itty bitty veins–they have trouble getting a good vein for a sample, much less a pint–and with the centers being so swamped, I don’t want to waste their time and mine right now. So, instead, I went online and made a monetary donation to the Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund. Perhaps anyone else who can’t donate blood for whatever reason right now should consider making a $ donation if they can. You can give online via the link given above for the Red Cross.
If you are underweight, stuff your pockets with nickels.
I am too young to donate (16), and I have O negative. I really want to give, so the Red Cross tomorrow is getting at least 50$ from me. I urge you to do the same.

Geobabe, I have teeny veins too, one of the reasons I’m needlephobic. But I’m healthy and figure my phobia is no matter beside the need. I don’t think you will be wasting their time. Bravo for the donation.
If you have questions about your “official” donation status, the following link details the guidelines on whether or not they’ll accept your donation.

You might have to try more than once, the site’s got a lot of traffic.
Frustrated because I, too, am under the minimum weight requirement – and I spoke with a nurse who advised against loading my pockets with pennies. She says if the donor is too small, there is a sudden-blood-pressure-drop risk, and the last thing these poor overloaded people need on their hands is an unconscious donor. My husband cannot donate due to the fact that he takes synthetic thyroid. So…besides whipping off a check to the Red Cross (which we did), does anyone have any other ideas how we can be useful?
The last time I gave blood was a little over 4.5 weeks ago. I plan to donate in a couple weeks(as soon as I can). I don’t know if I will be able to becuase I just had surgery. It didn’t involve blood transfusions. Does anyone know if I would be un-aloud to donate because of that? I know that they ask if you had surgery on the questionare. How important is that? I really hope that I will be able to becuase I have type O+ blood and they probably need it.
The Canadian Blood Service has been calling for donations for shipment to NY City - the Beloved and I have appointments for first thing in the morning.
It’s not much, but we want to help.
