I want a pony. We don’t have any place to keep a pony (although I have thought that perhaps we could use the extra bathroom) and we certainly cannot afford a pony. But I want a pony, all the same. Or a goat. I like goats- especially those little ones at fairground petting zoos. A landscape designer who we have been waiting on for 6 weeks called today and said he’d be round this afternoon. It’s now 11pm. No landscape designer. So annoying. In the first place he was supposed to have called after 1 week and we waited 6, though we did try - unsuccessfully - to contact him in the meantime. grrrr. ---

The squirrel chewed his crumb, my generous offering, quickly. His tail twitched frenetically, his teeth nibbled in time to the staccato of his tail’s beat. He eyed me and I eyed him. Old rivals of the park bench, were we. But it was truce time and so we eyed each other with an uneasy yet, almost serene, air. I knew he’d want another crumb, the bastard. I had a bag full of them but I wasn’t sure if I’d drop him any more. I mean, what had HE done for me lately? Nothing but eye me with his quiet, impending squirrely wrath of future doom. Was I supposed to forget all of that? Huh? No way, man… don’t ever forget the quiet, impending squirrely wrath of doom! That’s when They get ya! That’s when They are calling the shots. No… he’d have to do something really **nice** for this next bread crumb, oh _yessss_. _twitch twitch twitch_ His furry, fluffy tail was a weapon. He was trying to lull me down, twitching that godforsaken tail in a hypnotic dance to ease me into a stupor, the bastard. _twitch twitch twitch_ I knew and he knew, and he knew that I knew, and I knew that he knew that I knew, and so we sat, eyeing each other… dead silence around us, if you can call the chirping of birds, the barking of dogs, the happily laughter and playful yells of the children scampering through the park silence.
