Looks like most of the punches landed on the helmet anyways, that probably hurt the attacker more than the thief.

No sympathy whatsoever for the thief.  
Hopefully this might make him think twice about stealing in future but I doubt it.  
People like him laugh at community service or fines that they never pay.
