Don't we have an obligation as a society to look at ways to curb gun violence?

You didn’t, no. But it’s not hard to find people saying we should look at every option except gun legislation. The NRA, for example, made their security guard suggestion and said kids are exposed to too much violence through movies and video games. Nothing else came to mind.
