When _RickJay_ closed this hilarious [9/11](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?p=18831989#post1883198)thread, the mod stated: This is not a Great Debate, and we don’t have a thread for outright lunacy. Why not? Why no “Lunatic Asylum” forum for the absolutely outrageous whackadoodles that the SDMB attracts on occasion? ---

Do you really want an entire forum filled with that? While we get a few outright loonies here, I don’t really think we want to attract more. For one thing, they would wander out into the other forums. ---

Isn’t the Pit already used like this? I’ve seen plenty of GD threads thrown in there like a zookeeper tossing steaks into a lion enclosure. ---

Not only would it make GD more productive (as the crazy threads tend to stay on the front page for way longer than the sensible ones so they help keep decent threads off the front page), but I think a crazy forum has the potential to be hilarious. I’d love it if we had a few more Illuminati MIHOP Lizard People conspiracists on the boards. It’d spice things right up 🙂 Of course, this idea may be terrible, but there’s only one way to find out… ---

Every single thread thrown into The Loony Bin would be accompanied by a protest thread posted in ATMB by the OP(or rabble-rousing fans) demanding to know why her/his brilliant idea was spurned in such an unkind manner. ---
