It’s that I don’t see the _problem_! What it comes down to is that somehow, you’ve somehow come to the opinion that soldiers should be heard and not seen, and now here comes this uppity serviceman who decides to have a drink in uniform (one that’s in violation of regs, mind you, but that’s not what this convo is about, is it?). Then I’d give it to my army buddies and gush about its wisdom. Maybe it’s just me, but they don’t need to wear their uniforms to advertise they are in the military. It’s kind of like a woman in her ninth month of pregnancy wearing a shirt that reads, “Knocked Up.” Having her belly enter the room 2 minutes before the rest of her is announcement enough. You can spot a 'em a mile away. There’s just something about the way they carry themselves that civilians can’t fake. I agree with **Misnomer** : it’s tacky to wear your BDUs to a bar. It may get you what you want, but the options would probably increase if you weren’t an attention whore. For one thing, if you wear your uniform, your rank is displayed. That might not be something you want to advertise. ---

I don’t believe I said your opinion was wrong. You said, “I just think it was tacky and he should have known better.” The first part of this sentence is your opinion – which, as you say, you are entitled to. It’s the second part where I think etiquette comes in. The guy didn’t 'know better" because it is only your opinion that it is tacky. He can’t be expected to know your opinion. He _can_ be expected to know the etiquette rule I mentioned, stating that the wearing of military uniforms in social settings is proper. He also should be expected to know which uniforms are appropriately worn in public – as I said, his BDUs might not be. Anyway, how do you know that the guy was wearing his uniform specifically to get drinks and girls? Maybe he was home on leave and his buddies asked him to wear his uniform when they took him out. That happened to me a time or two – and as a girl, I usually got guys and drinks whatever I wore, so that was never my objective when I wore my uniform. Or maybe he wore his uniform home on the plane and the airline lost his luggage with his civilian clothes. You don’t know for sure that “getting drinks and girls” was on his mind at all. I just got the sense from your posts that you felt a military uniform was ‘too good’ to be worn in a bar, thus my use of the phrase 'sullying." Sorry if I overstated your objection. I’m also sorry that I missed the clue about your gender. I am also mistaken for a man on these boards occasionally – I know how irritating it can be. My apologies. ---

Some see the uniform as a big dollar sign. A lot of those women know the pay rates of soldiers better than the soldiers themselves know. I didn’t go to the bars in uniform to pick up women. If I wore my uniform, it’s because everyone else was, and I didn’t want to stand out. They got hit on, but I imagine it was a combination of the uniform _and_ spitting game, something which I never really learned how to do. No, I’d say there’s nothing really _special_ about a guy in uniform unless you were turned on by that to begin with. ---

The moment someone enters the military he starts to look and move differently in a way that cannot be faked by someone who has not yet entered the military, but he will learn that way and subconsciously deploy it from that day on the moment he does? ---

Preparing meat for roasting, that’s what I thought. But interestingly enough, if I found a man that I wanted to have wild monkey sex with, I don’t know that taking off his uniform, or taking off civilian clothes, would make a difference to me. _Naked_ is the key.
