I knew **JC** was from Chi-town, but like I just told him in an email, I was expecting that cry of agony **yesterday**. Seeing it today, when my mind had moved on to other things (like the Red Sox’ parallel moment of agony), caught me by surprise. ---

Yeah, and I hope you can forgive me for being such a smart ass. However, realistically, given the way things went this year, they really **do** seem to stand a good chance next year! ---

If it’s any consolation, **JC** , I so desperately wanted the Cubs and Red Sox to make the World Series that I won’t be watching it at all. The Marlins and Yankees, after all, have the best teams money can buy, and since this is the case, certainly don’t need any of mine. Robin ---
**Author:** ![Jonathan\_Chance](https://sea3.discourse-cdn.com/straightdope/user_avatar/boards.straightdope.com/jonathan_chance/32/701_2.png) [@Jonathan\_Chance](https://boards.straightdope.com/u/Jonathan_Chance)\ **Post date:** [October 17, 2003, 4:19pm UTC](https://boards.straightdope.com/t/dope-a-ween-iii-dc-va-md-pa-wv-nc-10-25-03/201298/233 "2003-10-17T16:19:16Z")
Well, I don’t think it’s fair to say that the Marlin’s have an expensive team. The Marlins team salary is only $52 Million. The Yankees are **three times that**. Let me repeat. **Three Times That**. The Marlins have 14 players making $1 Million or less and of those 6 are making the minimum of $300,000 (must be nice, eh). Good idea. Distract him with statistics. And I’m not going to watch. Yesterday I cancelled my television service…no foolin’. ---

Change in costume plan. I am no longer going as a literary figure (Wall, from Midsummer Night’s Dream. Note placement of “'s”). I am now going as an interactive game. **fizzy** and I spent some time tonight getting the costume ready. I just hope we didn’t buy too much of one thing and not enough of another… ---
