I am new to the Boards and glad to be here. Aloha I’m still learning, of course, and I wonder what lesson I should take away from this little exchange in [What is "Original Sin"? - Great Debates - Straight Dope Message Board](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=703640) What is “Original Sin”? C: I’m sorry, but the story of Adam and Eve is a logical mess from beginning to end. … * * * C: That only works if you believe the serpent in the Garden of Eden to be Satan. j: You have an alternative interpretation? C: Frankly, if you claim to be analyzing the Bible, adding in parts unwritten to suit your personal beliefs casts doubt on any further analysis on your part when it comes to that topic. If you really don’t care, why post in this thread? j: Well excuse me. I thought we were discussing Original Sin. And as far “analyzing the Bible”, imo, it is poor and internally inconsistent fiction that some folk’s here seem to think is the Word of God. Why post in this (or any other thread)? Probably for same reasons I imagine you do. Time on my hands and my need to serve Truth. I assume from this that you do “care”.What exactly do you care about on this thread? What I care about is a an answer to the question I posed in the OP. j: So would it be fair for me to parse the OP as: “Given that Adam and Eve are metaphors, what is ‘original sin’?”?. If someone doesn’t respond to your post, it’s generally considered good form to wait at least ten minutes before reposting it in larger font size, repeating every ten minutes with increasingly larger font sizes until someone responds. Many SDMB posters have poor eyesight and won’t reply to a post until it’s at least size=4. If you get to size=7 and still haven’t received a reply to your question, you can repost it more frequently, although you should vary the text color between replies in case someone is color blind. ---
