How many veterans are there here especially physically fit ones? Currently active duty soldiers? ---

You and the rest of your gang of fiscal liberals would tie anchors around the feet of the few productive people here, making it impossible to create an actual society. Me and those like me would probably be able to carry you guys for a little while, but your overwhelming numbers would bring us down in the long run. ---

Considering something like 99.999% of humanity has disappeared I don’t see anyone acting reasonably. ---

Presumably Cecil would lead us, through Ed, yes? How long could we live off of canned food, Twinkies, and jerky before we’d have to actually have to resort to the drudgery of growing food? ---

Doper Christians like myself tend to actually use the brains God gave them and think for themselves (critical thinking is a pre-requisite to Doperhood) and wouldn’t even bat an eye to help out their fellow Dopers in a scenario like **Curtis** described. I don’t know about FriarTed or kanicbird (didn’t even know he was a fellow Christian, but then my main hangout is MPSIMS, where religion isn’t brought up that much), but I don’t think “getting new followers” is their sole priority. It isn’t mine. (Mine’s trying to be the best Christian I can be). Again, you’re confusing Christian Dopers with the more prominent members of our faith (and putting words in their mouths as it were). I know I’d have absolutely no problem with working with a whole possel of atheists (what is the collective term for you folk anyways?) to better society - I do it every day. [/QUOTE] Why would that matter? Planning Dope Wars 2.0? My question is how many dopers do we have that are skilled in the trades. I can do well enough with basic carpentry, plumbing and simple auto repair. As far as maintaining any building larger than a house, not so sure. I think we have plenty of engineers to maintain the important infrastructure like sanitation and probably a few different types of power plants. Its the day to day maintenance I wonder about. ---

I see **FriarTed** as the kindly father figure, whereas **kanicbird** is, let’s say not, very not. **Curtis** , I see you wandering the village, spending every waking moment of the next 40 years trying to convince people of the reality of something you call Gryst and Gud, and ultimately becoming the sandwich-board Repent guy everyone begins to pity, and all the kids fear. Some of us bring you soup, but you simply spit at us. ---

Plenty of Dopers have experience in growing or otherwise obtaining food. But it’s irrelevant, since by my back-of-the-envelope estimates, there’d be enough canned food to last us for a century or more: That’s plenty of time for us to re-learn farming, if necessary. One interesting point, though: While I can’t see religion in general disappearing (it’s too ingrained into human nature), we’re rather underrepresented in the clergy department, and I doubt we have any bishops, for instance. So some specific religions or sects probably would die out (and then be replaced by others within a generation). ---

I don’t think I’d be able to make the trip across the Pond. I’d just claim some fancy title like Tzar of the Western Russia, Grand Duke of Karelia and Lord of the Northern Wastes and stay here. Or maybe I’d try to travel south, winters are kind of harsh here after the heating infrastructure fails. GHO57 would be here somewhere too, but finding one other guy in a country of this size would be rather hard.
