but I love how people seem to think that running a board is so hard, when there are some 300 more popular boards on the internet which seem to do just fine.
I mean, is it even necessary to have to maintain the server by yourself? Aren’t there facilities that offer such functions that can handle that sort of stuff for a fee rather than using a shitty Desktop PC?
I speak from personal experience: it’s pretty easy for someone with enough power to take down your server, your blog or your underpants. The hundreds of people out there who can’t take down your underpants either snark at you off board or they whittle away at this site’s database. The Search function is just the latest stupid tard trick.

To answer your first question, actual evidence that the performance of this board was, or was definitely going to, improve. We were told it would get better if subscriptions were paid, and that was bullshit. We were told it would get better with ads, also bullshit. “It’ll get better soon” is bullshit; the reason Mr. Zotti is not providing any details is because there are no details to provide, because there’s no plan to fix it.
I’ll resubscribe when it gets better or if I am offered some other sort of fundamental customer service concession, such as a discount or an extension.
To answer your last question, I’m afraid I would have to decline such a generous offer, because it would just defeat the purpose of my refusing to pay for a shitty service. I don’t want money in my name going to a business that lies to its customers and provides crappy service.
Of course you can E-mail me (send me a PM!) but like I said, I’ll be keeping an eye on it as an observer, just in case things, against my expectations, get better. I will be happy to resubscribe if they actually invest a little money in the board. Maybe there’s a decent baseball board out there you know of?

I think **Robardin ** has mentioned some good baseball boards, but of course I cannot search at this time.
I really hope the Dope improves and we can retain or bring back the many valuable members. I prefer this board where we can mix sports, politics, science and everything else in one place. I can think of a few times we were disagreeing strongly about a world issue and having friendly banter in a baseball thread the same night. That is what makes the Dope great.
We already lost one of the Baseball mainstays, our most active Cleveland fan.

The thing that grates me as a new member is that I was sucked into subscribing as a guest because this place seems to represent a higher standard of sentient beings than say, the website I help run www.go-bengals.com (which has a pretty active political forum called “Jesus And Dubya”), which is entirely free.
What irks me is that when we went to banner ads, etc to support a FREE website, there was some weeping and gnashing of teeth, but…that’s reality in the messageboard world.
What I take issue with here is not only the inconsistent reliability of this board and the elimination of the search function, but this board looks and operates like it’s 1999. Visit any number of newer VBulletin boards and they are slicker, allow sigs and avatars, run better and smoother and generally are more functional.
And those are FREE boards, and we pay fifteen bucks for 1999 reliability and servers, not to mention a lack of accountability on the part of the admins even bothering to post in a thread like this or offering any sort of apology or explanation of why these issues occur with such frequency.
Your perception that there is a “Bush is the suxxor” groupthink on the boards is based on a skewed statistical sampling: the vast majority of people who do post concerning the current administration are those who believe that Bush is the suxxor. The people who don’t believe Bush is the suxxor for the most part choose to remain silent in the face of obvious hostility.

The only other forum I lurk in that has sports talk is SA. While there is some good talk going on there, the ratio of RickJay type of contributions vs. contributions of someone like, well, me, leans more towards the sarcastic goof. It’s not as bad as WoW forums, but very different. Though like here there is a “baseball crowd” as well as in the out members.
Let’s see, the Spring Training thread over there was started Feb 27, 2008 20:57. Since then there has been 1449 posts. So you can see that they have a very high posting rate. Of those 1449 the talk breaks down:
