I feel the pain of South Carolina. Actually, I’m right here in Irmo. I was going to let my lurking continue and dodge posting, but seeing another South Carolinian, much less someone else from Columbia, is fair enough motivation. I’m a straight, white, male who stands 5’7" (and a half!) at about 130 lbs. I’ve got dark brown hair and darker brown eyes. I’ve got a decent tan, but my bare bottom is white as… well, a bottom. I like to think that my height has no bearing on my personality, but upon analysis I guess you could say I have a bit of a Napoleonic complex… like, I want to conquer Europe, freeze my ass off in Russia, and then get schooled by a British guy twice my height. Sound fun yet?! Truthfully, though, I’m pretty easy-going. I like to laugh and love to joke, though the two are often mutually exclusive (jokes… and funny jokes, tsk tsk). I love to shop (for clothes, mostly. Express for Men, Banana Republic, Armani Exchange, et cetera) and love my car (and many others) more. I have a modest knowledge of Latin and a laughable knowledge of Italian. I like movies, particularly ones about gangsters or other cheesey action-dramas. Typical John Malkovich kinda stuff, you know. You’d be hard-pressed to find a time period that has no scrap of music that I like (please don’t take that as a challenge). Um, I fenced for three years and have been thinking about getting back into it. I have great hand-eye coordination and I’ve been told that my manual dexterity is superb (_wink wink_). I think that’s about the sum of it. This entire post is disjointed and ugly, but what can you do? Please don’t think it reflects too directly upon poor old me. 😉 ~ARose (More commonly, Alex Rose) ---

I don’t know why I’m doing this since I think the only female Doper within 1000 miles is married, but if anyone is interested in e-mail exchange… Single Asian (Japanese) male, 29, grad student. Astronomer and rocket scientist (sort of - most of my astronomy research involves designing instruments to put on rockets). Addicted to the SDMB and currently obsessed with weird bicycles. At least I spend as much time riding them as tinkering with them so I’m reasonably healthy and fit. Bilingual as a result of spending 1/3 of my life in English-speaking countries, currently trying to find a way to move to the US. (Promising lead on a job in Huntsville, AL. but not confirmed yet.) And I’m not quite as impersonal in real life (or private communications) as my posts might suggest. ---

Oh, what the heck. I’m looking for someone to date these days… SJF, 29 (turns 30 in January), pretty physically fit (I’m a grad student, hoping to get my master’s soon. My research is in forest ecology, so I do quite a bit of hiking while carrying heavy things.) I love to read (I’m partway through a book called _The Life of Pi_ right now, and I just finished re-reading _The Unbearable Lightness of Being_.) I also love to travel, even though I haven’t done that much of it, and I enjoy learning about different cultures, languages, music, cuisine, etc. I’m also a pretty big foodie, and I like to cook. I don’t smoke, and I don’t drink very often. It’s cool if you’re a beer-on-the-weekends kind of guy, but I can’t date a smoker. Sorry. So…any Doper guys interested in a men’s-jeans-and-T-shirt-wearing, no-makeup, semi-nerdchick who willingly plays with bugs in Columbus, Ohio? I’d be happy to have e-mail pals, too. ---

Oh, yeah–forgot to mention– 1. I have a slight pot belly these days. Gone is my time of almost-flat abs. And the hips are a little wider than what’s usually considered the feminine ideal. 2. If you could sing a capella harmonies with me, that would be great. (I’m an alto.) I haven’t had anyone to sing with for quite some time. 3. Practitioners of sarcastic humor and bad puns are welcome. Same deal for guys with a keen sense of the absurd. Firesign Theatre fans a plus. ---
