For myself, if a thread title doesn’t cause an answer to start writing itself in my head I don’t even open it, particularly in GQ. I always assume that someone on the board knows more about it than I do.

I don’t know why nobody else answered your thread but I think there’s an element of timing, too. Sometimes when the board is pretty busy a new thread sinks to the bottom pretty quickly. If it’s below thread titles I’ve already skimmed earlier I’m not likely to notice it.

Is that what they’re calling it these days?

> I used to work in the detergent business, and don’t really know what that OP is referring to. It has been a few years, and s/he mentions it’s new, so maybe there is something to it. I don’t want to post in a pariah thread, so I’ll ask here: What products has this been noticed in? Also, is there any similarity in the packaging by chance - same bottle plastic, for example?

Well some folks have come in on it so pop on over there and I’ll answer your questions.

I saw that over there in GQ. I’ll see if I can find an answer for you.

> Mountain tops, people have been there, read stories about them, seen pictures, and can actually offer up a response, even if it might have been something Google could have answered. In I kind of like those threads sometimes, because we all can pick up a tidbit of knowledge on a topic we might not have had enough interest in to personally research.

Speaking from the perspective of a GQ mod, that’s basically it. Many people have first hand experience of mountain tops, and many more know something about them from second hand sources like films and photos. So a lot of people may think they can contribute.

The main problem with the OP’s question was that it was highly subjective, as well as vague and lacking in specific detail. No one else knows exactly what qualifies as a “stink” in the OP’s mind, so without info on the specific products few people may feel they can say much useful.

Um, I don’t know what kind of doctor does hernia operations. That’s not a dumb question.

Knowing what the tops of mountains are like requires looking a some pictures. Knowing that every mountain top is different requires a little common sense.

I try to answer questions where I think I have something to contribute. I’m funny like that. 😉 Just for you, I went and made a contribution in your funny smell thread. Not sure how relevant though…

That makes the question easy to answer. Your OP is about which questions get responses. More people try to answer questions that are easy rather than those that are hard. People usually don’t decide _not_ to answer a question because it is easy.

You’ll note that your OP is easy to answer, so you are getting lots of responses.🙂

Perspectives vary. I thought the mountaintop question was way more interesting than yours. Before you added onto to it your original question was (to be frank) kind poorly crafted and annoying for it’s lack of detail. If you are asking for specific responses it’s only common sense to explicitly identify the products you think have this characteristic out of the thousands of soap products out there.
