I don’t have one, either. But I’ve used my Confirmation name ever since I was confirmed (Hey, _I_ chose the name. Why not?) So my quasi-middle name is Richard. It works into a really neat monogram with my real first and last initials. ---

**Florence** , which rocks. After my Grandma. Actually, my first and middle are after the grandparents: Joe and Florence. But I’m Just Joan, not joann. (Joan does not rock.) Oh, and my grandma ( born in 1890) always wanted to be a Gertrude. So, I would like to thank my Great Grandmother. ---

Murray. It’s my mom’s maiden name, and I hate it, because having a maiden name as a middle name sounds cool and semi-refined, but only if it’s obviously a last name. If my middle name were, say, Fitzgerald (to pick an ethnically-similar name that’s not in my family tree), I’d be more willing to share it. As it is, it sounds like I had a grandfather who wore horn-rimmed glasses and a pocket protector. ---

Same here…no official middle name, since my folks wanted me to be able to choose when I was confirmed. I went with Michael. My wife is currently pregnant, and if it’s a boy, we’re naming him Max. I can’t believe how unreasonable my wife is being, what with the fight she’s putting up over my wanting the kid’s middle name to be either “Power” or “Danger”. ---

Learn. I kid you not. It’s my great-grandmother’s maiden name. My mom actually meant to name me after the other side of my great-grandmother’s family, but got confused. It would have been DeCamp, which doesn’t sound as good anyway. ---

I hate my middle name, so I am reluctant to share it, but here goes: Pooja. Means “prayer”. They gave it to me when I nearly died of malaria at age 2. Ugh. ---

Edward. My dad and my son also share that middle name. My dad uses a shortened version, Eddy, as his go-by instead of his given first name. ---

McCoy I actually quite like it. My Great Grandfather decreed that he would pass on his heirloom to the first born son of his line (that would be me), but he requested that part of his name be used in that child’s name. He was Frank Field McCoy. So if I have a son I have to pick one of those and stick it in there some where. He was certainly an egotistical SOB, but the names aren’t bad. The heirloom is a cane topped with solid gold given to him by the then King of Jordan in appreciation for his work. He was a ‘biblical archaeologist’, which at least in his context means a minister who worked excavating holy sites in Jordan and Israel. It may not be the best name, but at least the story is good.
