Yes, I know, it’s just that the “rule” (which, as with all English rules, is always true except when it isn’t) is that a final “f” changes to “ves” for the plural. Y’know, like thief -\> thieves, staff -\> staves\*, calf -\> calves, half -\> halves, elf -\> elves, and so on. If “brief” followed the rule (which it doesn’t), they’d be “brieves.” Now, how the heck did we end up talking grammar when there are naked people all around us?! I wanna see a nekkid grammar nazi now. \*In British and International English, anyhow. I believe “staffs” is accepted in American English now. ---
