It’s getting to be that time of year – and I’d love a repeat of this charming Doper tradition. For those who haven’t participated before, here’s the drill: You send your (IRL) name and address to the Designated Recipient of Names and Addresses. He or she makes up lists with this information to distribute. Last year, we had 30 or 35 people total, so we broke it down to two lists to keep it doable – you’re welcome to be on both lists if you want to send out that many valentines. Once you get the list, you send a valentine (homemade, if you’re cool, like **cranky** or [ahem] me, but storebought “nice” and storebought “dollar store” are also more than okay) to each person on the list. Then you sit back and wait for your mailbox to fill with greetings from all over the country! the continent! the world! (Yes, Canadian Dopers are welcome to participate – international Dopers as well, but it’s going to cost you a lot more in postage than it’s going to cost us.) Cheap thrills, but LOTS of fun. I was Designated Recipient of Names and Addresses last year, but that seems to be a rotating position, so if someone else would like to volunteer, I’d be happy to relinquish the position. IIRC, it took me an hour or two to put the lists together and email them out, it’s not a big deal. So – whaddya think? ---

(BTW – the perk of being the Designated Recipient of Names and Addresses is that you can put your name on both lists, even if you’re only going to send to one – at least, no one seemed to object when I announced that I was doing so last year.) Resisting the chance to get a bunch of valentines from a bunch of Dopers was like resisting the chance to have an extremely attractive and naked man be my houseslave (though not necessarily for the same reasons). E-mail has been sent. Breath is being held. ---
