# Dopers I'd like to meet (but probably won't)

I may not have a lot of posts to my name (yet), but I’ve been on the boards long enough to get a grasp of who’s who, and to start looking forward to threads started by my favourite posters. There are some dopers here who make me smile, make me laugh, or make me think. And while you’re all a wonderful bunch of people, there’s a few of you who I genuinely wish I could meet. Living in the UK means that it isn’t very likely (unless some you want to send me a ticket), but here’s my list anyway…
**Elucidator** - Because I agree wholeheartedly with his politics and his take on life. He manages to be consistently witty and funny, even in the depths of the most passionate rant. Sounds like I guy I could share a few drinks and jokes with, while bemoaning the state of affairs and roundly cursing Shrubya.
**Tamerlane** - Because the depth of his historical knowledge never fails to astound me. Here’s someone I could learn a lot from, and with whom I could happily chat for hours.
**Collounsbury** - Prickly invective notwithstanding, Coll’s grasp of politics in the MENA region is unnervingly thorough, and his views also parallel mine whilst being admittedly more balanced. I’d love the chance to sit at a coffee shop with a hookah pipe and and a glass of mint tea to discuss the latest developments in the region and practice my shamefully rusty Arabic.
**Welby** - Because he’s one of the funniest guys on the SDMB, and his threads always make my work that bit easier.

Heck, I’d like to meet **garius** , but that’s mainly because I’m half certain I could con him into buying the first round\*. And I’d like to meet anyone that could even hypothetically buy me a beer.
\*This presumes that just because one is homeless that one need not be beerless.

You know, if you steal discarded mannequins from department stores, dress them as you picture the doper in question, and routinely hold intimate conversations with them, you will find that you don’t even need real people in your life.
It’s very liberating.

I’ll pass on the inflatables, thanks. My life is wierd enough as it is.
And to everyone I didn’t specifically mention, please don’t take offense. My WLTM list is ever-expanding, and spontaneous displays of financial generosity will always help your chances.
Having said that, I’d love to meet **Angua** to chat about our mutual love of Terry Pratchett, and **Athena** to discuss all things bike-related (See! See! I didn’t forget!).

I’d like to meet **The Bad Astronomer** , mainly for professional reasons, and he’s so much better than I am at explaining all things space related. Also, **Scylla** , as his posts just brighten up my day, **Guinastasia** , just because she seems like such a good laugh, **FairyChatMom** , because, well, wow, I am in awe of her. I’d like to meet **Tomndebb**. He’s been my idol for ages and ages. I think he avoids Dopefests like the plague, though, so this is unlikely. Alas, alas.

I am a disciple of **Pubshido** or **The Way of the Pub**. Its an ancient English Code of Honour - similar to “Bushido” in many ways - it just has more “I love you… no seriously mate… I LOVE YOU” moments.
One of the key tenets of The Way is this:
“On entering any drinking establishment that serves alcohol (excluding Fosters and Carlsberg) you must **always** immediately offer to buy a round.”
So you’re in safe hands 🙂
