Some people post almost exclusively in General Questions and Great Debates - have you noticed that? The BBQ Pit, MPSIMS and In My Humble Opinion seem to be real low rent neighbourhoods to these people. They’re frightened of being mugged - right? ---

It’s just a matter of taste, and for some limited time. I have found that I can’t cover all the forums. I enjoy GD and started posting there for a short time when I first joined the boards. But I discovered that it takes a lot of time to truly follow through on the debates. I didn’t have time to look up link, etc. to back my views, so I graciously stepped out of the forum and now tend to just lurk. It’s not a matter of who is better than who at all. ---

For me, it always depends if there are live threads of interest to me. If there’s a gun debate going on in GD, I always stop by there first. If there’s a flame war that’s been particularly interesting, I stop by the Pit first. I keep my nose out of GQ and the Comments forums, as I never really felt like I fit in there. ---

I spend time in GQ for the educational value, and for the kicks I get from being helpful when somebody posts a question I might actually know something about. I come to the Pit and MPSIMS for the entertainment value. IMHO is also entertaining, but polling threads often steer me toward books and music I might not otherwise have heard of. I hardly ever go to GD; as **ultress** says, keeping your hand in a debate takes up a LOT of time. And I’m not the sort of person who swells with pride when an adversary is forced to grudingly admit that maybe, yeah, Fontina tastes better in a grilled-cheese-and-tomato sandwich than Havarti. The downside to this is that, while I hang with mugs like **UncleBeer** and **manhattan** and **Alphagene,** I never get to see **Gaudere,** who is by far the best-read, most sagacious, and gorgeousest moderator on the Board. That **David B** character is okay too, I guess, in his own way. ---

Different strokes, Gnome; dependent on interests and time available. Some just read more factual fora but post to the social outlets; some just opt for the more social stuff upfront. I’ve heard of inferiority complexes, but this is the first real evidence I’ve seen to support a superiority complex! I’m a regular MPSIMS denisen, though I’ve existed in GQ long enough I don’t have anything to prove to anyone. ---
