# Doritos "Hot" Flavors

My eldest son has been an adherent to the Doritos altar with shit like “Jacked Buffalo Ranch” flavors, which I found totally abhorrent, and they STINK like funk.
Doritos foray into spicy land has been really uneven. Sweet chili, jalapeno, etc all seemed to fall short.
I am of the mind that hot for hot’s sake is stupid and ignores flavor. I like spicy when there’s flavor involved.
That said, Dorito’s new “Blaze” chips somehow fall into that category. Spicy, flavorful, long heat on the back end…I think the are amazingly good.
Try them, see what you think. They finally got it, and like the McRib, it’ll probably go by the wayside.

I’ll give them a shot, but comparing it to the McRib (and I generally like McDonalds products) is not a point in their favor…

Awwww, I really _like_ the spicy sweet chili flavor (in the purple bag) and am sure that therefore they’ll disappear soon.

Ooh, the kids love them. All the hot stuff. Hot Cheetos, hot fries, hot Doritos. We sold them by the dozens at the concession stand at ball games. We had them at what I call an overpriced amount. Sold all we had for every game.

There’s one they supposedly made with Cholula that wasn’t bad. Didn’t taste much like Cholula, but it had that nice lasting heat.

I only meant to compare them to the McRib in terms of longevity. I DO NOT like the McRib. Nothing says BARF like a preformed mystery meat patty shaped to look like it has bones and such as the McRib. Those things are gross. I have many friends that swear by them though. “Oooh, I want one extra wet with extra onions and a large Dr Pepper!”. Bleh. You can have it.

Those are the least terrible (and hot) Doritos of the prementioned bunch. This new flavor is pretty damn good as far as predetermined dry spices applied to mass produced corn tortilla chips go.

Except for the tried and true Nach Cheese doritos, i’d rate all of the other flavored varieties on a scale that ranges from “Sucks” on the good end to “I smelled them through the bags while walking down the chip aisle at the store, and the smell alone made me feel like vomitting” on the bad end.
But I’ll try the Blaze chips. Because you only live once.

Do they have any “hot” flavors that are hot?
In my experience, they’ve done better with the Cheetos flavors. The Flamin’ Hot Cheetos are actually perceptibly hot, and have a flavor that reminds me of a wing place I used to go to. And the jalapeno cheddar aren’t all that hot, but taste really good regardless.

Gotcha. There was a streak of years where I was suckered in by the McD’s marketing and bought a McRib during McRib season, only to wonder, why in the hell did I buy this? I didn’t like it last year, why do I think I might like it this year? Eventually, I broke the habit.

The Doritos Flamas and the (discontinued) Fiery Habanero have/had at least a Flamin’ Hot Cheetos level kick to them.
If you want spicy tortilla chips, look out for Paquis. Now, they’re famous for having their “one chip challenge” where they go nutty spicy on a single tortilla chip, but I was at a gas station the other day and mindlessly picked up a pack of their ghost pepper chips, assuming they would be like any other “ghost pepper” product and merely produced in the shadow of an actual ghost pepper. Holy freaking shit were these spicy. We’re talking a couple orders of magnitude higher than your Flamin’ Hot Cheetos. If you’re a chile head, you’ll like these.

the mini-market at work has the “Salsa Verde” flavored ones. they’re not bad.

I actually quite like their rolled-up product, the Dinamita line. The texture is quite nice and more satisfying, to me, than their regular chips. There’s also the Takis brand of rolled up tortilla chips, which I enjoy even more, which have a sturdier texture to them than Doritos. The Fuego flavor is quite nice, so try those if you see them.

The one time I tried Takis, I loved the texture, but the only flavor available was something lime, which I didn’t like the taste of at all.

I grabbed a bag of the blaze ones at 8-12 today. I wouldn’t call them nasty, but I didn’t care for the flavor. It wasn’t bad or anything, I just couldn’t tell what it was supposed to be.

Yeah, that’s the basic Fuego flavor I was talking about. There’s also Nitro (which is habanero, but not all that hot), but that also has a strong lime kick to it. I love the salt + sour + hot kick. I haven’t tried Salsa Brava or the Fajita one yet, but I’m not sure if they sell it at my local grocery. Those seem like they should be less limey, but it seems like almost all the Mexican snacks at my grocery store (which is targeted at Mexicans) are variations on the chili and lime theme, so I couldn’t say for certain.

Different flavors of Takis [here](https://www.mexgrocer.com/brand-takis.html). If you don’t like lime as a flavor, a lot of Mexican snacks will disappoint you, as its so predominant. When I lived in CA, I could get Mexican version of American products, such as Hellman’s mayo and Coke, with lime added.
