Double doors, one locked. Wtf??

But we are talking about a business with two swinging doors. Each more than big enough to allow a person to enter. Who swings both open to enter or exit? I’m not talking about how to unlock them.

I don’t think the heat/cooling argument holds up.

:hijack:
I don’t have a ‘dog in this fight’, but IMHO I think that y’all (constanze and dontbesojumpy) may have got off on the wrong foot, so to speak, in part because the two of you are from different parts of the world.

I don’t know where dontbesojumpy is located, but it kind of sounds like he/she is in the USA, whereas constanze is from Europe.

Just an observation. YOMV*

*Y’alls opinion may vary

You mean American exceptionalism makes it okay for him to mangle my name and impugn me? Or that as European I’m not allowed to comment on a mostly US phenomen? Or what? Most Dopers, and most posters in this thread are from the US, but nobody else acts like him/her to me.

Slight hijack, but when I open a small businees with two front doors, I’m painting a big ‘SLAVE DOOR’ on the locked one.

I anticipate no problems.

I have worked at two smallish retail chains and both stores instructions to the opening manager was to have both doors open during business hours.

In one case the store manual specifically noted that it was a negative experience for customers to reach for a door and find it locked, and the opening manager could be written up for leaving a door locked during business hours. This retail chain is a high end kitchen gadget place with years of retail
experience. I won’t name the store but their initials are WS.

[Moderator Note]

constanze, you’ve been repeatedly cautioned about political jabs in General Questions. I’m making this a note, but it could have been a warning. If you have a problem with another poster, report the post instead of getting aggrieved.

Since the factual aspects of the OP have been answered, and this seems to have become fodder for opinion and bickering, I’m closing it.

Those who are vitally interested in whether it’s due to laziness or some other reason can open another thread in IMHO.
