Yeah, ‘douchebag’ is definitely my insult of 2005. In 2004, it was ‘nutsack.’
I’m taking suggestions for 2006. If nothing catches my fancy, ‘douchebag’ may just get carried over for another year. It really is glorious.
I nominate asshat or assclown if they’ve not been used in previous years.
If those’ve already been taken, apply the following formula:
[sexual slang] + [food item] = [amusing, insulting compound word]
e.g. twatwaffle, cockbiscuit, cuntnugget, dickchip, cummuffin, etc. Endless possibilities!
I’m a big fan of “tool” and “toolbox.” But I’m a packrat; I can’t bear throwing anything away- especially an insult.
On a particularly hot and humid day, the woman at my favorite liquor store confided in me offhandedly that she was “hot as a sack”

Just another generic insult, which most people using don’t even understand.
Then again, I was using “dingleberry” for years before I learned that it was a real word.

I prefer “jerkwad” (or variations thereof).
Maybe it was just where I lived but the use of “douchebag” seemed to decline sometime in the early 80’s. However, it has made a bit of a comeback since I’ve started hearing it more often again.
