# Downside of Florida real estate?

I have it on good authority that we’ll have self-sustaining rebreather technology by then. In the meantime, shush before you lower the value of my house even more. 😉

Chinese drywall has a gas that it emits. It corrodes the metal in in the house (like wires and pipes) and can make you sick. You can’t live with it. You need to rip it out and replace it.

1. threat of major damage from hurricanes
2. high homeowner’s insurance due to #1. I remember when a house could be covered in the midwest for a few hundred dollars per year. In FL it is thousands.
3. termite/pest control costs
4. high A/C costs
5. sinkholes, especially north of Tampa Bay (Pasco County)
6. also, think hard before marrying into a condo community, and be willing to serve on the board (thankless unpaid part-time job) if you do.
7. it’s hot & humid in the summer. then again it is in just about every other state as well. but when it’s still not cooling off by Thanksgiving it leads to heat-fatigue.
