Mostly I suggested Cruz in that out of the many, many suggested possible picks (that I don’t consider too greedy/dangerous to be out of the running) he is terrifying in only a way someone who’s a ‘young man’ by DC standards can be. Someone who could suck up to Trump’s ego and then linger like putrescine beyond all efforts to annihilate. Actually I am considerably more worried about DeSantis, but I think it’s clear Trump would stay well away from him as competition. But I do admit @Buck_Godot 's link to David Barton was enlightening in a new direction. For that matter plenty of prosperity gospel types could very easily tie into Trump’s self-created image… ---

I don’t think that Trump would go with Cruz or Hawley because he would see them (rightly) as ready to shiv him in the back the second an opportunity presents itself that would let them seize the Presidency. And I think he sees Graham as too much of a patently pathetic suck up – useful, sure, but not somebody he wants associated with the brand he’s trying to convey. No, he’ll pick someone who’s got some credibility, but who’s proven he’ll sell his own grandmother to serve Trump’s political interest. And looks good on TV. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you Vice Presidential candidate Kevin McCarthy. ---

Why not a Woman? Well reasoned Republicans wouldn’t let him run with Ivanka in 2016; now that a few more screws have fallen out??? I can almost hear the ketchup splatter against the walls. I don’t think he’s opposed to a woman running as his vice president adoring fan, staring up at him with a tear in her eye. His standing with women outside of evangelicals seems to be shrinking (abortion rights, general insanity, and some acceptance of his guilt). Two possibilities; Kristi Noem (Unhinged SD) or Nikki Haley (Grifter - SC). Both can “appear” sane, talk intelligently, yet adhere to Mango’s most cherished and strongly held beliefs (me, Me, ME!!! - gag emoji). Just another way to grab 'em; they like that. ---

Trump will always want to be the Center of ~~the Universe~~ Attention. I think a woman might pull focus from him by virtue of the novelty of **being** a woman candidate. Also, any woman ambitious enough to want to be the VP candidate will not be content to be a self-effacing, humble, female Mike Pence. ---

None of these people have any of trump’s inexplicable “charisma”. Of course, I never dreamt in my worst nightmare that anyone would gladly lay down their life for _him_. In keeping with the absurdity of it all, I’m blaming Marty for this fucked up timeline. ---

True. That is probably why they don’t get along with each other. On the surface, one might have thought they would be like Bevis and Butthead or Dumb and Dumber. Turns out they are more like Itchy and Scratchy. ---

My bet is that, if he announces another run, he will put off selecting a running mate until sometime after the Republican National Convention. Doesn’t matter what the party wants or what has been done since forever - he’ll want to hog the spotlight and make every toady in the country crawl to him for that VP slot. ---

Excellent thought. Trump’s choice will largely be based on the quality of said toadying he receives. And / or the quantity of money he is paid by the toady or his sponsors. The gender specific pronoun “his” is deliberate; I don’t see Trump approving of a woman running mate regardless. ---

The convention nominates the party’s candidates for President and Vice President – he can’t wait until after the convention if he wants his running mate to appear on the ballot. ---

Then he will wait until the dead last minute. Anything to milk the spotlight. Personally I think he’d try to run without a Veep, just because.
