# Dreaming about dreaming

Last night I was having a dream, let’s call it “Dream A”. Dream A was interrupted by Dream B, the very realistic sound of my wife talking to my son in another room. Dream B sounded important, so it woke me up. I rolled over and there was my wife, asleep, obviously not talking to my son.

Interestingly, it was time for me to wake up anyway.

In a similar vein, when I lived with my parents I once had a dream of my mother knocking on my door, coming in and saying “I have a new way of making you wake up.” I woke up, and again, it was time for me to be awake.

Anyone else?

Dude! I think I’d have to move out if my mom started doing that.

Yep. Quite often in fact. One of the worst was a few nights ago, where I was in a particularly scary dream. Trouble was, I _knew_ I was in a dream, and couldn’t get myself out of it. I tried the usual stuff (pinching etc) and eventually came to. So now I’m in bed, 4am, awake, and musing over the dream and how I woke myself up, when all the scary stuff starts happening **in my bedroom**. Not good. I wondered at that point how I would **ever** know that I wasn’t yet another level down in some dream.
