I love films with a dream (or nightmare) quality. You know, films where things seem a little off and odd. Films where the images are somewhat surreal at times or just plain bizarre. A few examples of this would be

\*\*The Ring

The Company of Wolves

May

Anything by Terry Gilliam\*\*

Do you know of any? What films felt to you like a dream?

Waking Life, which was really a movie about dreams in the first place…

_Blue Velvet_ was so dream-like that I’m still not sure I didn’t fall asleep part way through it.

_City of Lost Children_ fits the bill.

I saw a really, really great Korean movie the other day called _Tale of Two Sisters_ that was gorgeous and dreamlike. The official website ( [http://www.twosisters.co.kr](http://www.twosisters.co.kr) ) brings across the general mood and visual style of the film. I’ll second Waking Life - when I left the theatre, I felt like I had just arisen from a dream.

Brilliant.

_Donnie Darko_
If you do not mind reading the dialouge, Fellini’s _8 1/2_ is dreamlike and \* Tetsuo: The Iron Man\* is certainly nightmareish, extremely so

My god, that looks awesome! I live out in the middle of nowhere, so I’m not sure that my chances of ever seeing it are very good!!! Oh well, maybe I’ll just have to join netflicks.

Orson Well’s brilliant version of Kafka’s “The Trial” (Fans of Terry Gilliams “Brazil” will love it)

David Lynch’s “Mulholland Drive” is perhaps the closest to dreaming of any movie I have ever seen. Try watching it at night, alone.

Waking Life is another good dream movie; truly delightful.

A perfect example is **And Now… Ladies and Gentlemen** (2002). It’s a romantic thriller, with a bunch of dream sequences and one of the main themes is that love is a dream. One of the most romantic films I’ve seen in a long time, a perfect date movie, since it’s also a heist flick. Watch for this to come out on DVD! French w. English subtitles.

**Swimming Pool** (2003) It would be a spoiler to explain why.
**Always** has both dream-like aftelife sequences and waking-dream sequences.

While watching **Solaris** (2002) in the theater, I kind of felt like I was in a dreamlike state.

**A Walk in the Clouds** (1995) has a romantic, dreamlike atmosphere, the title is very apt.

**The Crow** definitely has a nightmarish tone.

I’ll second _Donnie Darko_ ( I really felt weird coming out of the show!) and _what Dreams may come_, _the Crow, Dark City_. And anything by Peter Greenaway and Terry Gilliam.

I’ll add _Natural Born Killers_ and most movies directed by Tim Burton, f.i. _Beetlejuice_, and the Batmanmovie with Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman.
And, I’m ashamed to admit, I also felt dreamlike after _The Matrix II_. Especially the hypnotic scenes in Zion.

I second _Dark City_.

Also _Grave of the Fireflies_ is dreamlike through much of the movie.

It’s not available yet, but [it will be](http://us.yesasia.com/en/PrdDept.aspx/pid-1002885330/section-videos/did-165/code-k/). I, for one, will have my grubby little hands all over it as soon as I can. Only problem is, it’s a region 3 DVD. D’oh!

I’ll second Donny Darko and La Jetee and add Akira Kurosawa’s Dreams (well, anything by Kurosawa, really).

I also want to give a big ‘shout out’ to 28 days later. Very dreamlike movie.
