# Dreams We All Have

I ALWAYS have the teeth dream. In it, my teeth re either rotting away or chipping away or what-have-you, or I can’t close my mouth properly because I can’t remember how to fit my molars together.

It’s weird, weird, weird.

I always assumed I have these dreams because I got super careful with my teeth after I had braces (soooo painful) but it seems EVERYONE has this dream. Why? Was it all those hours spent every year circling the classroom swishing fluoride?

When I was little I used to have that dream all the time where I was trying to go somewhere - usually to get away from something chasing me - but my legs were very, very heavy and I couldn’t move them. Then one night, going to bed, I realized that I always tucked in my blankets _very_ tightly because I liked the swaddled feeling. Of course, that kept me from being able to move much. So I started sleeping untucked and never had the dream again.

I used to have a recurring dream of a tsunami coming up the cliffs of the Pacific coast, where I grew up. First I’d do the dumb thing & be out picking up shells & jellyfish in the receding waters just before it (NOTE: in a real tsunami-preamble, DON’T EVER DO THAT!), and then suddenly I’d realize & be running up the seacliff trying to outrun the big big wave. I usually did make it, though.

After my son was born, he would be with me running up the cliffs.

I also used to have the dreams where it was an emergency & I had to drive a car somewhere, and I really don’t know how to drive…those were SO stressful, but I stopped having them once I learned to ride a bike.

Now I mostly have dreams I don’t remember the details of, but I know I go someplace really suffused with chiaroscuro golden light and color, and I pass time with wonderful people who I really love. Which is really nice, because my life on this plane has been kinda rough lately.
